Where has this mp3 been all my life? Oh yea, being created lol! Since owning this touch I have downgraded on my phone and its apps and carry this daily. My gps on my blackberry doesn't even compare to the ipod touch. I purchased the 8gb because i currently own a 32gb classic and could never fill it up due to changing music playlists and movies and videos monthly. I love this device and would gladly hug the inventor.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I've had my iPod Touch 2G since last Christmas and it almost never leaves my side. I no longer need to take my laptop with me on on short trips. There are enough productivity apps in the app store that all I need is a wifi connection, and I'm good to go. You can even use Skype on this thing!
My only gripes are that the 3.0 software update came with a price tag, doesn't provide full bluetooth functionality (although I can see this being rectified in a future update)and using the bluetooth is a big drain on the battery.
I know a lot of people complain about water damage voiding the warranty, but if you search Youtube, you'll find some pretty effective ways of getting around the problem. Mine got rained on a while back and started malfunctioning, so I stuck it in a container of rice overnight and it was completely fine in the morning.
All in all, this is a powerful little device with 1001+ different uses that will change your life. Of all the gizmos I own this is the one that I would want on a desert island (a desert island with wifi and a solar panel).Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

It's astonishing how quickly technology leaps - I bought an iPod nano when they first came out and was even then amazed by its simplicity and power. Now, only a few years later, and at roughly the same price, the iPod touch is effectively a pocket computer that, by the way, plays songs quite well. We bought this for my son (he saved up half and then got the rest for his birthday). It's pretty amazing. He uses it to plot our car routes, to check the weather, to look up information, and, of course, to play games and listen to music. I told him I remembered when my parents bought one of the old Apple II's and then IIe's and an early Mac. Now there's more power in his pocket than ever dreamed of in those older machines - which were pretty astonishing at the time.
Others have talked about the specs and capacities of this device so I won't add to that. Just adding my take: a handy, fun, and astonishingly powerful little device. Even better, it looks so good and feels so nice in the palm of the hand. It's beautifully designed. Highly recommended. Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I bought the IPod Touch to substitute my Palm PDA. I was told it would sync with the calendars and contacts in Outlook 2007. It wouldn't. I needed to purchase for $99 a year a subscription to Mobile Me. Then it would sync. Contacts were not sync'd correctly even with Mobile Me. I called Apple support to try to fix the problem with the direct sync to Outlook. I was told by Apple support that the Touch really does not support Office 2007. What? Since I purchased the Touch strictly as a PDA, it is useless to me. I'm very disappointed with Apple and their product. Let's face it, they do not make their products to easily be compatible with a PC. Bottom line, it's not worth it. Stay with the IPod classic or nano for use as an MP3 player and forget the Touch.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I am sure that a technical person would probably find things that could be improved. But for me I just see the fact that I can carry around so many CDs, also all the kid's storis and audio books, the movies I want to see as well as pictures, contacts and calendar - all in one small piece of equipment. Whenever I have to wait somewhere or am on the road, I can just take it out and choose what I want to listen to. The built in speakers in this edition are quite good even though I prefer to listen to it with either Bose head phones or through the Belkin car kit.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

My wife used to own a 16gig Ipod Touch until 3 weeks ago when she decided to convert it into an Aquapod. After dropping her Ipod in the lake we assumed it was junk. I dove down a week later and retrieved it so she could use the old case when she bought a new one eventually.
We were totally amazed when we found that IT STILL WORKS FINE AFTER A WEEK UNDERWATER!!! It's been 2 weeks since it spent a week underwater and it's going strong. Screen looks and responds totally normal, battery holds a charge, wifi/email/internet works fine. The thing is very heavy now, it must be filled with water. I told her to store it in a glass of water when shes not using it, as soon as it dries out inside, it will start to corrode much faster.
I know we are already on borrowed time and it may not last much longer but I just wanted to share an amazing story with all of you. GO AQUAPOD!Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

This thing does so much, more than can be explained on a simple review. This is the ultimate computer, yes I said computer. It does everything and fits in the palm of your hand. Get it, you will love it. Plus this thing is almost free with a MacBook Pro purchase, just do not expect too much from Apple's Customer support if you buy from Amazon and not Apple.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

The uses and possibilities are endless. I make phone calls with my Ipod Touch. I organize my day, keep up with my finances, order pizza, reserve movie tickets, check my email, and on, and on, and on. I don't know what I did before I had this. Oh ya it also plays music. If you are debating on this or some other MP3 player, there is no real choice. I had a Zune and it sucked so bad. I will always come back to IPOD again and again.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

This thing is awesome- app store, itunes, you name it, its goi it!(except for calling but it does have contacts! And a camera). I love mine- I cant seem to keep my hands off the brilliant touch screen. It has an app for everyone. Coloring-has it. Action-has it. Community-has it. My favorite games are Tap Tap Revenge 1&2. I also have Lady Gaga Revenge. I also have Rollercoaster Rush, fun game, Deer Hunt 3D free, fun, and lots more. They have an app to fill your every need. Sweet! Plays music great. Can hold as many songs as you would ever need.
My only complaint- it needs wifi for all the cool stuff. My friend has one but no wifi, so all she does on hers is play music. If your looking for just a music player, go with a Nano or Shuffle.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

It still seems unfair to deliberately ship this product with outdated software...
As of 8/12/09
quote Apple:
iPod touches are still shipping with the 2.0 software, because they still offer functionality to use the App Store and enjoy a large amount of support from third parties. The iPhone OS 3.0 Software Update is intended for the iPhone, and is available for purchasers of the iPod touch because it makes additional functionality available. It is necessary to purchase the iPhone OS 3.0 Software Update as the iPod touch doesn't have a recurring charge associated with it (as in phone plans).Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

Probably the most fun "toy" I've owned in a very long time. I've had it a couple months and I am still finding out what this thing can do. Never been a fan of Apple (always thought their stuff was overpriced), but honestly, for this price, the iPod Touch is totally worth it. The apps you can download make this an incredibly useful tool for productivity, and also for fun. I use the iPod much more as a PDA than I do a music player, but the music and video on it are fantastic - especially the online radio capabilities with the built-in WiFi. And with email and web surfing, it's a solid 5-star product.
I would recommend buying a case or protective cover for the Touch. It's fragile. Belkin makes some nice "skins" that are only a few dollars and work fine for most light-duty handling. It's just not a "tough" device so be gentle with it and it will be good to you.
All in all, I'm bummed I didn't get this sooner. It almost never leaves my sight now!Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

First of all, Amazon got this to me right on time, and despite some pretty confusing tracking going on in the shipping process (my iPod seemed to travel backward in time and space several times, showing up in cities further away from me at earlier dates than had already passed) it showed up at my door right on time. I bought it refurbished, and the product quality was excellent; the screen was completely clear, with no visible markings. The back was a bit scuffed up, but who freakin' cares, I keep it in a speck case anyway, so it's not like I ever see the back.
Alright, it goes without saying that the iPod Touch is pretty cool. It's an iPhone without the phone. There's a whole lot of great things to say about it, and many great things have been said, so to avoid reiterating what you'll see everywhere else I'll just point out the few things that could have been done better.
I really don't understand why there aren't physical track control buttons on the side or top of the iPod somewhere. Apart from the hold/lock button, the volume controls and the large "back/home" button, there aren't any buttons on the iPod at all - which is kinda cool, but it's really rather a nuisance to have to take the iPod out of my pocket, unlock it and push the "next track" or "pause" button every time I want to skip a song or pause to, say, answer my phone or listen to my boss. I discovered after a while of using it that you can access a simplified music control panel while using any other application on the iPod by quickly pressing the "home" button twice, which is nice. It was a bit of a pain to have to close whatever I was working on (safari, whatever) and go to the music section to change tracks, but now I don't have to do that, so no complaints there.
The only other hardware gripe I really have about the iPod is that it doesn't come with a camera and microphone. I realize that these are iPhone features, but I see no reason why they should not be iPod features as well. I'd like to be able to use my iPod to record voice notes and take pictures, and there are all sorts of cool apps that use the camera and microphone that I just can't use. There's technically an ability to connect an external microphone or camera, but who the hell is ever going to do that? You can even see the spot on the back of the iPod where the camera goes on the iPhone. I want to be able to use the barcode scanning app, or the music identifying app, among others, but I can't because I don't have a camera or microphone. So you'd say "why not get an iPhone," but I don't have AT&T and I'm not going to switch services just to get an iPhone, especially when AT&T has crap service where I live. Besides, the phone kills the battery life, from what I've seen. My iPod has ungodly battery life - it will last for 2+ days of moderate use on a single charge, and my aftermarket car stereo (which I got on Amazon as well) charges my iPod every time I get in the car.
As far as software tweaks, there's a few things that bother me a little bit. First of all, I really wish there were a way to truly create and edit playlists from the iPod itself. This seems to be a feature lacking in every mp3 player I've ever used, and it's as annoying as ever. I really just don't see why I can get on the internet, watch movies, play games and watch stocks from my iPod, but I can't make a new playlist and save it or edit the playlists already on there. The "On-the-Go" playlist works, but that's just another confusing factor: the functionality is obviously available to edit playlists, so why can't I edit and make new ones? Weird. In sort of the same vein, the iPod (and iTunes as well) is lacking a "now playing" playlist or queue. Frequently, especially when I'm on long drives or using my iPod for party music, I'd like to be able to queue up songs to play "right after this one", or "at the end of the queue". Even just being able to add a song to the end of the "On-the-Go" playlist easily would be nice, but you have to go into it from the "playlist" menu, hit "edit" and find each song you want to add to it from that menu. I want to be able to do this while I'm scrolling through the big spinny album changer and something strikes my fancy, not from the playlist menu. In a lot of the other parts of the iPod software, namely Safari, you can bring up a list of alternate options by tapping and holding on an item. Why can't we do that with songs?
I also seem to have trouble downloading and saving images from the internet on my iPod. It's odd; I can go to a site that has a picture I'd like to use, say for the background, and you hold your finger down on it to bring up an options menu (as mentioned before - apple seems to slowly be understanding the concept of an easy-to-use "right click") and tap "save image", but even if I load the picture in full quality, it winds up being trash quality when I save it, making it impossible to zoom in to use a certain section of it as a background. It has no problems if I download said picture on my laptop and then send it over, but I can't seem to figure out how to save a picture in full-quality from the iPod itself. And on a semi-related subject, YouTube tends to load pretty poorly from WiFi as well. I'm not sure if this is due to the limitations of the iPod WiFi hardware or a software problem, but I usually have to let videos buffer if I want to play them smoothly.
Oh, and it would be really sweet if you could open up the back and add micro-SD flash memory cards to increase the size of the iPod, but knowing Apple and their "customers keep your dirty plebeian hands off our hardware" policy, that's a dream that will never be fulfilled. Oh well, 16 gigs is plenty for all the music I care to listen to and quite a few apps and movies. I have to keep some of my music off of it to make it fit, but it's mostly crap I got from friends and never listen to anyway, so I don't really care.
Right, so that's about it. No major complaints, just a few things that could be done better; the iPod Touch is far and away the coolest and funnest (is that a word now? I'm seeing it everywhere) mp3 player on the market. They've definitely come a long way since the hulking white bricks with the black-and-off-white LED screens and constant bugs and battery problems of the first generation. Definitely worth at least 4 stars, and hopefully the software issues will be fixed in future updates.
Oh, and as an afterthought, iTunes sucks. It's slow-loading, cumbersome and non-intuitive bloatware. I'd eschew it completely for MediaMonkey if I could load apps from it, but MediaMonkey doesn't do apps (and probably never will) and the current version (3.1.0.1256) doesn't sync with the 3.0 version of the iPod Touch/iPhone firmware yet. Oh well, sad story, but maybe someday iTunes will stop sucking. I can dream, right?Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.
