This defiantly the best mp3 player i have ever owned. i use to dislike apple products and felt as if everyone is just joining the band wagon. But boy was i wrong! Apple did a great job in making the touch and with all the features that is included, i do not know a single mp3 player that can top it. for ~$200-$250 for the new 2nd gen ipod touch 16gb, it is a great deal. Wifi, accelerometer, apps, videos, safari, contacts, calender, maps, and so much more, this is the ipod for everyone! I have moved on to the iphone 3g now but i defiantly will remember my 2g touch. This is a great product and lots of fun to use. I like the small design the showing of the album art work when you play music. But the main thing that makes the Touch so great is the Apps. You can just about find any kind of apps from cooking recipes, games, gps, car repair or whatever you want. Plus now I don't have to jump on my computer to read my e-mail or check my bank account since I have the g-mail and boa apps. In truth, I would only give it 4.5 stars. For some reason, when the app sync is on with my iTunes my apps stopped working for some reason. I ordered this for my 14 year old daughter who both promised to reimburse me (which she did) and whom I tried to talk out of spending so much money (which I couldn't). Never the less she is very pleased with the itouch and uses it endlessly. It arrived within 4 or 5 days from the time of order and that is appreciated. I'm impressed that it picks up our wireless router signal to connect her to the Internet. The cool factor alone made this purchase seem like a no-brainer. It combines the most essential features of a PDA, the convenience of surfing the net without booting a laptop up, the ability to watch a movie on a screen you can actually see, game playing offerings, kindle book reading capabilities, photo viewing with a spectacular interface. And at it's core is your music playing device. Well, not exactly, and there-in lies the rub. After unpacking and sampling the myriad functions Apple built into this thin and elegant package I felt almost giddy. Until I plugged in my Shure 5C headphones to have a listen. Maybe the jack wasn't fully plugged in?! No, it was snug. Surely this had to be some kind of a joke. No, and stop calling me Shirley. The sound was flat, lifeless and frankly, just plain terrible. Every review I'd read listed as a Con, the fact that the sound was just average. If average means, sounds like listening to your neighbor's cheap stereo by pressing your ear to an adjoining wall, I'd say they nailed it. Much as I wanted to love the itouch and have it replace several other devices, the sound was so bad that the same day it was delivered, it was boxed up and returned to Amazon. I compared it to my older Toshiba Gigabeat side by side referencing the same songs and then trying my Sennheiser 650 cans as well and there was no doubt that sound quality fell off a cliff. It isn't even as good as a $50 Ipod Shuffle. As for the other wiz bang features; the ability to surf the web with the Safari browser seemed amazing and fast. But to see a web page requires constant stretching and moving. OK in a pinch, but far from a satisfying or useful web experience. The "keyboard" that pops up any time information needs to be typed is ridiculously cramped and I was constantly having to go back to correct things which was annoying to say the least. The same was true of writing a note in the Notes function. As far as the calendar feature, it was great to see the days of the month, but not for inputing information unless it was entered on your laptop first and then sync'd. The two games I purchased in my giddy frenzy looked terrific on the screen. But honestly, the same "fat finger" problem existed that interfered with play and even seeing what I was doing. The movie viewing feature looked promising though I didn't get that far. The glass screen was elegant but wound up smudged and greasy looking and had to be cleaned perpetually and the chrome back while beautiful would have been scratched beyond recognition in no time as others have documented and is assumed by now by all. I have a Kindle 2 which I love and imagined this would be an extension of that service. But the app doesn't work well and is clumsy and crude. Mail...here was a great feature that worked wonderfully...as long as you are in a hot spot of course. So my personal and unbiased opinion is that the itouch has wonderful promise and is very sexy and elegant. But if you want to enjoy music, it's a dismal failure. If you want to surf the web, a new "net book" is small, costs the same and is far superior for that and several of the other touted functions. I know that comparison is apples and oranges, but my advise as a consumer who looks for genuine utility as more important than, "gee wiz, this thing is so cool"; the itouch may satisfy the needs of some people, but in all honesty, it really does few things really well or even average.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

Does all kinds of stuff and there are so many inexpensive and free apps that it's breathtaking sometime figuring out what I want. Very easy download and install of everything from itunes. Only problem is that it loses it's connection to the internet alot and you have to turn it off then back on to get another connection. Getting annoying. I am a first time apple customer. My previous mp3 player is the 8GB Ceative Zen. I decided to try something different for my music. The iPod Touch 16GB arrived on time (with the two day order option on Amazon).
First, I am able to transfer my current music from the Creative Zen to the iPod Touch.
Second, the volume is great! This device has a clear sound without static. There are several options available to change the tone and pitch of the music's sound.
Third, the WiFi technology automatically finds an available network for connecting to the Internet.
Fourth, the only negative part of this purchase are the awkwardly large earphones that Apple includes with this device. However, a more comfortable pair can be purchased.
This is a five star device!!
Amazon has good cases for this device to prevent scratches.

This toy is so cool... I have a 1g Nano which I loved and was so easy to use however quickly ran out of space for songs.. I almost bought a new nano but decided to try this and am so glad I did.. This apple product is still so easy to use, anywhere there is a wi-fi connection I can look online and check my e-mail right out of the box without installing any program or any hassle or fee.. It has its own short cut to Youtube and the quality of the picture is amazing its so clear. I loaded every Cd I have on this and still have some space left.. I think if your into top notch gadgets you can't beat this. Games, calculator, apps, stock mkt info, weather, on and on.. Oh yeah and don't forget the music the whole reason I bought it for.. It feels like a mini laptop and I found it easy to type with the on screen keyboard. I am glad I have my other Nano in case I am worried about this one getting damaged or lost, thats the only drawback I can see is that its so special that I baby it a bit where with my nano It was what it was a music player and It banged around with me working out or in the car, in the bottom of my bag... I recently wrote the following at another site re slightly larger computers. It is a testament to the brilliance of the iPod Touch so I reproduce it here. The instant bootup may be a bigger advantage than meets the eye. I have the HP 2133 and have been checking other smaller netbooks. My intention is to have a truly portable, always available, unit to do specialized functions, mainly take notes and write thoughts as they come up, and keep up with the net and my email. All the hardware out there defeats these purposes because the bootup is so slow; indeed sometimes painfully slow like when updates are available and being automatically downloaded. Surprisingly I find myself using my iPod Touch more and more to satisfy at least 80 or 90 percent of my needs, even short notes. In the meantime the 2133 sits on a shelf (and when I do turn it on it goes for up to an hour updating and diagnosing itself). Because of this I considered the new Fujitsu Lifebook 820. If it had the responsiveness of my iPod Touch I would have bought it in an instant! But it runs on Vista! I don't need a full function portable when I am in the street. 16g iTouch (not phone)
I like this as a companion piece to my old 40g ipod. It's useful, and I like to be able to carry feature films and video podcasts with me.
Useful as a kind of "digital drop-box" but cannot carry ALL of my media like I do on my larger old ipod, obviously. I need to get more used to syncing more often.
Web-browser and apps are nice. Will make it easier to not lug a laptop for weekend trips. I won't use this for working out/exercising. I've got my old ipod for that. I'd be scared of falling/breaking anyway.
Battery life dissapointing. About 3 hours without recharge. Cannot recharge without USB cable and new plug available conveniently from apple for $30. My old ipod car charger won't work.
I do find that battery life extends if I turn off wi-fi when not using it.

I love my iPod touch 2G. It had all the great elements of update from 1G. It got the volume button and cheaper price. It's metal back is better than iPhone 3G and it's slimmer and lighter in weight too.
I have following good, bad and ugly for this product -
The Good -
1. Calendar, Clock, Photos, Safari
2. Free Applications (Facebook, Remote, Games)
3. Accelerometer
4. Bright beautiful 3.5" display
5. Built in speaker
6. Light weight and sleek.
7. Greenest iPod ever. (See specs)
The Bad -
1. Battery life with Wi-fi enabled
2. No button to pause/play/skip
3. Accurate rewind/forward in Audio Books is difficult
4. Cannot use as flash storage
5. Display is not true 16:9 (like N97 will be!)
The Ugly -
1. Indian iTunes Store is handicapped. No Music, No Podcasts and fewer applications.
2. Users cannot replace battery
3. You'll have to pay $9.95 to upgrade the FW to 3.0 and unlock Blutooth.
Bottomline - If you've waited till now, wait a little more for iPod Touch 3G. The FW 3.0 beta was declared on 17th March 2009, the 3.0 loaded iPod Touch is not too far.
Besides this what I'd really love to have added are following
1. Built in Microphone
2. Built in GPS
3. Add FM Radio
Apple - If you are listening - Kindly throw in the above three also! :-)

This is absolutely the most fascinating ipod I've had so far....but the only complaint I have is that the ipod battery wastes so fast. I suggest dimming the backlight, not playing with the games or surfing the internet for long periods of time because it wears the battery as well.One little side note if you do surf the web it is hard to read any of the web pages which is kind of discouraging but you can see some things for the most part. I purchased an ipod touch 2g when my old nano 2g was stolen. i wanted internet access on the fly and ease at accessing my music since i have eclectic tastes and different music works at different times. With one exception i am not the least bit disappointed in my purchase. It is fun, easy to use, the interface is great, the apps are numerous and there is something for everyone's tastes. the only problem is that the battery life is ssssssoooooooooooooooooooo short. Somedays it has to be charged several times a day. Definitely pop for a car charger or a wall charger or both if you are thinking about buying this product. Also, keep the WIFI setting turned off when not in use, this helps with battery life... but not much. Did i mention that the battery life stinks?? This is a very expensive and nice toy. I was hoping to replace my Palm m515 with the iPod but that is not the case. The ipod is a colorful toy with lots of pretties. The m515 is Plain Jane Vanilla but is a workhorse when it comes to usefulness.
Case in point, the iPod is difficult to add notes as you have to use your fingers to peck out the notes. The m515 uses a stylus which makes typing so much easier.
The iPod, at least for my applications, requires a WiFi connection to import data. At least when trying to export a shopping list from MacGourmet. Since I am a housewife, cook and chief bottle washer making a grocery lists is a top priority. Using the iPod and the Wifi connection makes grocery list importing difficult. It would be nice if I could export the grocery list and synch it like I do with the m515.
Then the iPod tends to "forget" it's WiFi password. You'd best remember the password as you will be inputting the password into the iPod so you can connect up with your WiFi network. Again, memorize your password as you will be re-inputting this information almost on a daily basis.
Positives:
The color background and ease of reading text is wonderful. The ability to download lots of free apps is pretty nifty. I have several recipe web sites downloaded on my iPod Touch. I can check Betty Crocker, Allrecipes or Big Oven for recipe ideas while shopping.
The calculator and timer are both nice features.
Would I buy this item again? Probably not. Would I recommend this to someone interested in music and video. Probably. The screen is of good size so you can watch videos with ease. Purchasing music is easy and there is a wide selection of music available at the Apple iTunes store.

So, I am one of those off people who haven't had an iPod since the 1 GB nano. This is my second one. Needless to say I filled up my PC with 10 GB of music and was heavily syncing various playlists every week. Well, I finally decided that this year I wanted an upgrade and was seriously torn between this product and the 120GB. I thought all I want is more music and podcast space, right?
Thankfully, a few people within my circle suggested the 16GB touch for the same price and I can't believe I ever considered the alternative. The iTouch is amazing and has literally changed things for me. I was concerned about not having enough space like I wanted; but, I was surprised as to how much I have available with this iPod. The built in speakers are also great. For example, when listening to a podcast in the car I can keep listening when I get home by setting it on the counter without having to plug in headphones...brilliant!. My only complaint which isn't really a complaint as much as it is a fact is that I wish there were more Wi-Fi places in the area. It is kind of bunk when I want to download a book or search for show times on the fly; but, need to find a hotspot first. Obviously, I just call instead.
So, all I really want to share in this review is what I actually have synched on my touch right now for those of you who are considering this product or another one.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my daughter. She was thrilled with it. She bought it a case, and it doesn't get a lot of smudges on it.Last month I went on a cruise and brought it along with me. At almost every port I was able to take the ipod out of my purse, and connect to a wifi, allowing me to keep in touch with everyone for free. What a great gadget! You wouldn't walk around with a laptop to find wifi, but with this little ipod, just turn it on, and you're connected. My daughter has it loaded with music which works great. Have not downloaded any movies as yet. What's so great is that you don't have a monthy charge for anything with this ipod, as it's not a phone. My wife had been wanting a iTouch 2nd Gen for a while now, but spending that kind of money to me was like is it going to be used, so when Amazon ran a special we finally bought this. We have found so many bargains on this site & are Prime members, so that's paid for itself already. Back to the iTouch 2nd Gen, what can we say, but Apple has really done a wonderful job with this product. My wife has been using this for about a week now and she has actually been reading a book on it & we just now bought additional screen player so that she can read more on a bigger screen. It's much cheaper then buying the Kindle. I just thought it would be another device that would hardly get used, but she's so impressed with it that we will probably be getting a 2nd one so that it's fought over. I enjoy my laptop & have a 80GB iPod, which I have been using a lot lately. All I can say is if you can find this with the deal we got on Amazon get at least the 16GB, we have downloaded quite a bit, so it will be well worth it. My daughter now wants 1, but we told her she has to save up her money if she wants 1. It's a great device that has had a lot of use & has a lot of nice apps from the iTunes store that my wife loves as well. I know now that this will get a lot of use & will be enjoyed in our house for long time. My wife wanted the 2nd Gen because of the speakers and the advance firmware that costs $10 to get on the 1st Gen. My wife had to wait to use it cause she ordered a case for it & arrived 2 days later, then went to town finding useful apps & songs that would be used. The apps are wonderful & extremely nice to have at your finger tips. If u can afford to get a Apple device this would be the 1 to get. Awesome product. I have a classic as well and this was not a replacement but addition to my growing Apple arsenal. As long as you have a wireless signal, the Touch definitely takes the place of hauling my macbook with me. The apps are fantastic, the stability is great and the price is okay. I lost my 1st generation Touch iPod and was surprised to find there was a 2nd generation now available. I'm not a techie, so wasn't up on new products. I was absolutely thrilled to find that the new model had speakers! I don't like using earphones and it was inconvenient to move even a small speaker base around the house with me. I use my 16 GB iPOD much much more than I did the first one. My primary use has always been to listen to audiobooks, but with this model I find I'm using many more of the features than I did before. Especially reading and replying to email and checking the stock market. With hundreds of reviews already submitted about the iPod Touch 16GB 2G, I'm not sure I can add much that already hasn't been said.
I love this device. It is functionally magnificent. The addition of the volume control, which the first generation didn't have, makes this infinitely more user friendly. The screen is bright and razor sharp. Photos look great on the screen as do videos, movies, YouTube and whatever else you view. The syncing capabilites have meant that for me, I can finally bury my old Palm Pilot... may it rest in peace.
This is the ultimate travel companion. I can watch video, play music, keep track of email, appointments and surf the web when in a WiFi area. The 2G has voice recording capability if you use a microphone enabled headphone like the General Electric earbuds with inline microphone GE Earbuds with In-Line Microphone. With the added protection of a Belkin Silicone Sleeve for iPod Touch Belkin 2-Pack Silicone Sleeve Case for iPod touch 2G (Black/White) you can keep your iPod Touch scratch free and looking good.
I never thought I'd get so much use from the iPod touch. To be honest I hardly ever even use it for listening to music. But I have downloaded dozens of useful, fun and mostly free apps from the Apple store and find them amazingly inexpensive and useful.
This really is an amazing device. It strikes the perfect balance between function and form. The only improvement I could envision is a sliding keyboard because the touch typing leaves something to be desired. Other than that, this is nearly perfect.

This iPod is the most fun you can have without actually getting an iPhone. It does almost everything the iPhone does, but without having to have the expensive phone contract. I have had the IPT for a few months and wanted road test this product before I reviewed it. This is my first ipod, though I have another small/featureless mp3 player for running. I am not a big fan of Apple products in general - but this is another story. The IPT is amazing. I am surprised at how much I use it. I don't have a car adapter, so my use is typically not when I'm driving. I use it 75% of the time for music and 25% for the other applications. I would recommend looking at the app reviews before adding them on your IPT (I have found the apps with negative reviews really are not worth adding). I have not figured out how to delete apps, I'm sure it's possible, but I haven't gotten 'round to researching it!
Two things I would love to see added: bluetooth -it's just handy- (edited later: someone commented that blue tooth should be available this summer as a software upgrade - so keep that in mind) and a built in camera (like the iphones offer). This brings me to another point, I debated about an ipod vs iphone. I simply did not find the iphone as comfortable to talk with as my current cell phone - that's just me- though I think all of the capabilities of the iphone are amazing.
One funny problem that I have -- I am now so used to the touch screen- that my brain thinks everything ought to be a touch screen - like my Kindle, phone and sometimes I go to touch my computer screen for IPT style capabilities. Creature of habit!
I got the 32gig version because it was not that much more than the 16gig, and I had no idea how much room the apps or movies would take up. (as it turns out, I have not downloaded any movies- may do so for future travel, though). If you plan to keep your IPT for a long time (I don't upgrade with every new version), I would suggest the 32gig -- if you upgrade your tech with each new revision, the 16gig would most likely be fine.
