The iPod Touch is so much more than a digital music player; it also has wireless connectivity, a calendar/PDA program, photo storage, video playback, and applications galore. The Touch is essentially an iPhone without the ability to call and without universal wireless access; you will have to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot or your home wireless network to access the internet.

This iPod sounds great. I've had other brands of MP3 players, but none sound as good as this one does. I didn't really want to splurge for the Touch, but after I built up the nerve to make the purchase, I am greatly satisfied. As with most things in life, there will be some things that you're not completely happy with. For me, it's the fact that I can only add music from one computer. Whatever you do, DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE & TRY TO ADD ANYTHING FROM ANOTHER COMPUTER! I cannot stress this enough. I'm not going to get technical, but this Ipod is a must have! The internet is so useful and fast, I use it everyday and I can say that it's saved me from a lot of trouble. The downside to it however is that you have to be around wifi to use the internet and most options on this little ipod but many places now will provide you with free wifi. Things that you can do with the wifi include buying an endless amounts of apps, surf the web, check your stocks, use the map (if I need the map though I set it before at home and I'm good to go on the road), check the weather, and buy music from the Itunes store, and so much more. You can even text with this if you have AIM but sometimes certain phones won't be able to get the text or it takes a while to send. If you get the Fring application you can even call people but you need the headphones that come with a speaker to do that. All in all, it's a great little toy and it's definitely worth the price. I am so glad I bought the iPod Touch over the iPod Nano. There is so much more you can do with it, especially with the WiFi (Games, Apps, Sports scores, etc). My 3 yr old daughter loves it too.

I absolutely love this ipod touch... i got this with the idea of checking e-mail on the go and while traveling this summer... My second Ipod touch.
My first one, I got it at the first release date.
This second one (2nd gen) was for my wife.
In addition to just being a mp3 player, what realy shine are the applications. My 2 yr old daughter is really into the simple games and became the most frequent user of the device. There are application for almost everything, that including games, puzzles, and educational toys that 2 yr old can play. Simple hardware interface and touch screen makes it for a toddler to actually turn it on, slide it open, and scroll left right and start, play or turn off the games. Problem is she tries to go touch screen on every thing, such as a TV, Nintendo, digital camera LCD, etc. She did manage to crash the ipod OS once probably due to one of the game not doing a good memory management making it even not rebootable. As someone who already has a pretty good mobile phone and an 80GB video compatible Ipod, I didn't pay too much attention when Apple introduced the Iphone awhile ago. I didn't pay too much attention either when the Ipod Touch came out, until seeing a friend's a few monthes ago.
I was intrigued, so my son and I started searching for apps on the iTunes site. I found enough cool games and such (tower defense type, strategy) and my son started building up a library of police/helicoper apps, so I decided to take the plunge. Bestbuy and others had the 32GB version for $399 plus tax, so Amazon's $369 plus free shipping, no tax, and returnable made sense.
I couldn't be happier. The screen graphics are great, sound is decent enough for games (when I don't have the headset in), they've improved the way to find songs more quickly over the Ipod, and it's pretty slim.
Strangely enough, I'm not playing games as much as I thought. I have quickly synced to my home email and Facebook accounts, so I find myself using this now to stay in touch due to it's connecting to my home wireless network. I'm also having a blast with other apps including weather, real estate (what houses are for sale within 10 miles of my house?), USA today, and various sports apps (to catch up on my fantasy players).

If I had to make one minor complaint - Apple really needs to include a Flash player in the Safari browser to support this ubiquitous format.

The ITouch is an amazing product that brings the untouchable world touchable. Being able to download information,shows, news, games, movies, etc. is truly an advantage. Apple controls the means of production of all their hardware, so there should be little reason for any product they sell to be substandard, because if you own the means of production, then there is never a reason why any product should suffer from flawed manufacturing and certainly not bad customer service, but Apple, as you will notice if you ever buy one of their products, is terrible with not only customer service but also occasionally with manufacturing flaws.
My iPod will not work with the latest firmware upgrade their iTunes installed on it, but what's worse is it will not restore back to its factory settings no matter how I try. It's useless with the current firmware. This is inexcusable. Apple could care less if you buy a defective product from them. They're too busy focusing on the next "big thing" to care about your old product you bought last year.

I purchased my 3rd Itouch last month. The first was stolen from my car (1st generation) and the 2nd got some water sprayed on it accidently(jogging while it rained. Itouch was in a water resistant case!). This is a very sensative electronic piece that has to be pampered a bit,but I so love the gadget that I decided to buy my third replacement. The strange thing is that it can no longer play on my docking station in my bedroom or in my car with the transmitting device. It charges, but cannot play as if the device is not recognised. I bought this iTouch for my wife. She likes it. I played with it briefly. it seems to be quite fast. I didn't feel that waiting "pain" for something to load. My wife likes the ability to access free wi-fi internet hot spots.
The shipment takes seven days and not the two days promised.
I give this item a 4 star just because there is already another faster G3 version out there, and you'll have to pay about $100 more.

I must say, this is definitely an improvement over the first generation, given the new links to Weather, Maps, Stocks, Mail, and YouTube. Just a warning, though: if you have a lot of emails in your Inbox, it takes FOREVER to load new emails. I've sat there for 5 minutes while it still said "Checking For Mail."

Over the last 4 years I have been very content with my Apple 30 GB iPod AAC/MP3 Video Player Black (5.5 Generation). That was until my son received the Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) LATEST MODEL for his birthday. Now being that I paid for a large portion of this gift I found it only fair that he let me borrow it and try it out for a couple days.
Physically the biggest difference was the size and weight. My 80GB is over a 1/2 inch in depth compared to the iPod touch at 1/3 inch and slightly more than 2 ounces in weight. It seems like such a small amount, but it is a huge difference when it comes to carrying it in a pocket or small purse.
I have to say that the iPod touch is very user friendly. After my son initially synched it with his iTunes account he was having trouble connecting to our wi-fi. He handed it over and within 2 minutes I had it connected and started surfing the web. Although I had never used it before, I found the Safari browser easy to adapt to. For the next half hour I checked my email, facebook, shopped here on Amazon, performed several google searches and when it came time to give it back to my son, well...I didn't want to and that is what led to me taking it for an extended test.
Overall in my opinion the best feature about the iPod touch has to be the unlimited amount of apps available out there for download. I was amazed at what you could get! From fun to functional, business to humorous and everything in between. This is something that I do not have the ability to do on my iPod and wish I did. My son has downloaded so many I had several screens to maneuver through just to find what I was looking for - music!
Now after 3 days of playing with the Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) LATEST MODEL am I going to buy one? Not yet. The original reason I purchased mine was for music and TV shows and this version hasn't improved so much that I feel the need to switch. Do I want one? Well as I said in the title - YES! The "fun" factor for me is a big part of that. Do I need to be able to surf the web when away from my computer, do I need the apps and games? No, but they would be nice.
My suggestion is that if you don't already own some version of a video iPod and are looking to get one - GO FOR IT! You won't be disappointed and I think the price is worth it. Additionally if you're going to invest in one, by all means pick up a protective case and screen cover. My son bought these and they will definitely protect his investment.

I've had this for a few weeks, since I found that ATT would still require the $27US/mo new iPhone data plan... my price point is about $15/mo. Coming from many years of Palm Treo/Centro, the Touch is really fun. I'm keeping it! Hopefully conversion will be easy if I upgrade to iPhone someday...
Pros:
- It didn't take long to get used to the keyboard
- It converted my Rhapsody tunes straight to iTunes (needed to redo playlists, but that's OK)
- I downloaded about 35 free apps, plus some mp3 free audiobooks, podcasts, books, and travel guides.
- WiFi is FAST
- Synchs to Outlook well (altho MS Outlook costs $, but that's a WinCrap issue)
- Good mp3 sound
- Upgrade ($10) synchs Notes (my Palm Tasks, but needed to redo groups)
- iTunes is more user-friendly than Rhapsody
Cons:
- I had to download a Contact app for groups: shame on Apple for not including this! At least the download app was free.
- The Calendar isn't robust (like Palm's): I need repeat selection for 'the last Wed of the month' or 'the 1st Tues of the month'.
- The Calendar doesn't show colors (per deceptive ads) like Palm does.
- No FM radio
- No Bluetooth (to send phone numbers to my mobile phone)
- Covers (mp3 flipbook) only works with iTunes purchases (deceptive ads!)

I resisted getting an Ipod for years, because I hated the Apple hype and the smug, condescending attitudes of some the Apple fanatics. I broke down and got the 8 gig touch when my Zune 80 broke for the second time and I saw the 8 gig touch at a great price. Now that I've got it, I can now see what the noise was all about. This thing is absolutely amazing and puts every other player I've had to shame (Creative Zen W, Zune 30, Zune 80, Sansa).
I just hate that I chickened out (because I thought it can't be that great) and only got the 8 gig (with only about 7 GB usable), which is not nearly enough memory. Don't even bother with the 8 gig, unless it's for a kid and maybe not even then. So far, my only complaint with my touch is that Apple charges for firmware upgrades (Boo, hiss). Yep, the reviewer was right--your new iPod Touch will inform you that there is a software update, and then will want you to pay for it. Shame on you, Apple. However, I'm not sure that you will suffer for refusing to be extorted for the most recent software. So far so good for me, which I have to admit is not saying a huge amount since I have only had it about 6 hours.
In that time, I have added a free "peek" at a TV series I may want to buy a season of, a little bowling game for 99 cents, several photos that I can now easily share with friends impromptu if we are having lunch and they ask how the new dog is working out ("Here! Look how cute she is!"), and a scheduled appointment for later in the month. I have a massive amount of tools at hand and enough stuff to keep me entertained when the doctor's office keeps me waiting in the big waiting room for 30 minutes past my appointment and the little exam room for another 15 minutes.
I do, however, have to completely agree with a somewhat frustrated reviewer here who commented on the complete lack of any user manual. This device arrived with one item that I have no idea what to do with. What is it??? They tell you virtually NOTHING about how to use this thing. It took me about 30 minutes of Googling and link-clicking to finally uncover how to do one thing. Perhaps 20 minutes of trial-and-error to figure out another (and I only ultimately succeeded because I had a Nano and so I had a clue about how this all works). What is this new trend of "Here, here's your purchase, you are on your own to figure out how to use it" that we are seeing more and more? I went to the online video user guide, which was mostly a friendly woman telling me that I could do this, this, and the other thing, with no instruction as to how to actually do those things.
