Wife loves it! We set it up on our wireless lan and she never puts it down. We have used it to load maps for places we are tring to find and to send emails when we are out at a shop that has wifi. I didnt want to be stuck in a 2 year contract with AT&T and I like my Helio, so I got the iPod Touch instead. This thing is a plethora of free gaming. The best games on here are either free or .99c.
I hate mac computers, but apple hit the jackpot with the iTouch. Its a great platform. Easy to read emails, play games, plenty of useful free programs. Its great. Worth every penny!Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I already had two other iPods, but the Touch intrigued me because of its wireless internet capabilities. It performs much better than expected, and is very easy and intuitive to use. I'm not a youngster, but even so did not find it difficult to navigate through the programs or figure out how to use the Safari web interface.
The touch screen "keyboard" is so much better than the eensy keyboard on, say, a Blackberry, and the device seems to be incredibly sturdy. I put a screen protector and a clear plastic case on it and just toss it in my purse.
Oh yeah, and it plays music extremely well also! Color me a huge fan.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

First let me say that having this makes me wish I had an iPhone (because I need Verizon, I cannot have one). This is such an amazing product. It is not only for entertainment, but also helps with many other things. My favorite thing about the Touch are the free applications. While I am not thrilled with the way you have to sync, etc., once I got the hang of it, it wasn't that bad. There are some really great utilities out there and they make having this VERY useful for me. I can use it to store pictures of things that I collect, and when I go to an auction to preview lots, etc., I can just call them up and compare them. Audiobooks are great. There is a Kindle application. This is probably the most useful piece of technology that I own, in respect of personal productivity. There are enough applications out there that you can customize this into a personal electronic assistant. I am simply amazed. And now that most hotels have a player, you can have your own music, etc.. Also, with many vehicles allowing you to run your music through the radio, you have fast, clear, music at your fingertips. Buy a screen protector to protect your investment....it's really great. Music is great. Video is sharp, and very easy to view. Viewing angle is not bad either. Some of the free games are also great! With all the free stuff, let me tell you, there are even better ones that cost relatively little.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I took baby steps, first I got the iPod Shuffle, Nano 1st generation, Nano 3rd generation and now I have the ultimate iPod Touch! Wow what a difference. The screen is unbelievably crystal clear and bright. The volume buttons located in the side of the unit is one great improvement from using the clicking wheel to adjust the volume. The built-in speaker is great since now you can listen to music, watch videos and play games without using earplugs. You have to remember though since this is so slim that the speaker has to be tiny and because of that it does not produce the best audio quality, but that is what you earplugs are for. The speaker comes in handy when wanting to preview a song, video or if you want to share something that has sound with your friends. Has a long battery life, it can last for more than a week just using a few hours a day. The tilt and turn feature that follows your movements is incredible. I am not going to go on and on about this review since so many have already mentioned the great features the iPod Touch has and I agree with all of them. Thanks to the great reviews and comments that were made, I am trilled I purchased this and now I sit here wondering what am I going to do with all my older models. :-)Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

When I went to a digital PDA (a Palm Pilot) some ten years ago, "moving up" from a paper based calendar/contacts system, I did so reluctantly.. but for one compelling advantage in the digital system: SEARCHABILITY. To be able to search my contacts and calendars and notes and EVERYTHING was incredibly attractive, and has proved invaluable over the years.
WHen my Palm device died recently, I upgraded to an iPod Touch, looking forward to the added functionality of wireless internet access, not to mention the music player capabilities.
I was stunned to discover that the iPhone / Touch operating system, already in its second version, has almost no search functionality. It's unbelievable that the primary advantage of digital storage - global search - is not incorporated into the Touch (and iPhone) operating system! Other very basic functionalities - like copy and paste - also are absent. I've been a Mac advocate for twenty years, and must report severe disappointment in this supposedly innovative device.
While the internet connectivity is neat, and the music portability is awesome, as a Personal Digital Assistant organizer - the main reason I would buy a Touch over a music iPod - the device is practically useless. What's worse, due to Apple OS restricitions, none of the thousands of Apps available for the device can provide the missing functionality. (e.g. I tried a really nice looking calendar app, and it couldn't make the Touch alarms work; nor did it have search or cut and paste).
Now I must wait for a new operating system to come out - there are promises of search functionality; but more likely I will sell the Touch and go back to a Palm or Blackberry device.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I can't sync my iPod Touch with my computer. Apple says it's Comcast's fault and Comcast says they don't support peripherals. So I'm basically using it for the same thing I used my iPod classic for--to listen to music and books--and the classic was much easier to use. The Touch is worthless if you want to listen while walking the dog or gardening, unless you happen to own a bunch of clothes with monster pockets. An armband? Are you kidding?
One of these days, I'll figure the darned thing out and it had better be worth it...Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) LATEST MODEL
I purchased this item as a deal between Amazon.com and Audible.com which gave me $100 off on the purchase. I am a truckdriver. teaming with my husband. I use audio books to survive the long midnight driving that I must do. I have gone through half a dozen other MP3 players, but NONE have given me the satisfaction that this ipod touch has~! When driving, I need the ability to see and access the audible books I need quickly. This ipod is THE BOMB~! I love it~!! I especially love the apps I can get, the podcasts as well as all the music that it contains. I even purchased a movie to watch on a recent flight which had no movies to entertain me. The visuals on it are fantastic, the games are impressive and overall, I could not say more about this item. Great product. Touch screen is effective and controls are easy-to-use with no manual required save for the syncing instructions. Applications are amazingly simple to download and install automatically in a matter of seconds. Overall it's a highly useful tool with many more functions than meets the eye; it even has a built-in G.P.S. system and MapQuest-like foolproof directions with estimated travel times to get you where to need to be. I received the 8GB model of the G2 model a few weeks ago. I have been a Mac user for 25 years and still have our Mac LC that still works.
I like the idea of this and don't use a cell phone. I hate them.
my main problem is my eyesight. In some apps you can increase the test size by squeezing the screen but in a lot of the apps I like that doesn't work. I use a lyrics app that goes with iTunes and that's one that doesn't work.
tiny little text that I have a very hard time reading.
I can barely read the apps names on the main screen.thanks for pictures in that mode.
Astronomy is one of my hobbies and there are some great applications for planetarium programs, but again I can't read them. You can zoom into areas of the sky but the text stays the same size as the original. So star names, etc, are not sized with the zoom
so my main concerns with this product are basically my own short comings, but I see the amazing potential
for this product to reach out and help other people with vision problems.
it's a fantastic devive, which unforunatly I cannot take full advantage of.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

The iPod functionality works very well. However, the miniscule HD creates immediate problems for anybody with a moderately sized library, photos, and video. The new iPod Touch is an interesting addition to the Apple lineup, but is it really worth the money?
First the pros:
* Like minimalist packaging? Well, you love this. Nothing but a plastic box and holder along with just enough paperwork to keep you guessing. Of course, you also get the USB charger, polishing cloth and earphones along with the obligatory Apple stickers to let potential thieves know your car probably contains a $300 goody.
* Included speaker is a pleasant addition. Sound quality, as expected, somewhat similar to that found in laptops - tinny but bearable. Kudos to Apple for hiding the speaker - I still haven't found it yet.
* Love the double finger swipe to increase or decrease magnification. Still one of the neatest tricks in the book.
* Accelerometer feature is nice and works great (this allows your screen to go from portrait to landscape merely by turning the unit sideways).
* On screen keyboard is nice and I like the fact that the letters enlarge when you click them so you know what you hit; however, those with fat fingers need not apply.
* Addition of rocker volume switch on the side is nice. Replaces the old finger swipe on the screen (although that still does exist, too). Switch is recessed just enough so that accidental volume changing is minimal.
* Video quality is downright good. No skips or hesitations when I played music videos or compressed movies.
* Refurbished units can be had at a discount on the Apple website and actually come with the same 1 year warranty as new units. Rare commodity, though and they sell out quickly.
* Apps from iTunes can be pricey, but here's a hint. Go to dealnews.com and they post apps that are now free or greatly discounted. Apple will often clear the decks of unsold apps just to spur interest so look daily but they really don't advertise it much!
* On the topic of apps, always look to the right panel on iTunes when shopping - this column has a header marked "free" and that will list anything you can currently get without cost. By the way, use iTunes and not the Touch to access this. Why? For whatever reason, more free apps exist online at iTunes than if you were to go to iTunes on your Touch via Wi-Fi. Don't know why since they both link to the same repository.
* Appears the screen is brighter than the 1st generation version.
* Safari browser seems faster to respond than before. One of the things that frustrated me with the original was the poky browser interface (see below for scrolling problem).
* Rounded corners, ala the MacBook Air, make this unit seem smaller than it actually is. It's about the same size as the first generation for those who are wondering.
* You can get the 2 year Apple Care policy for about $60 which isn't a bad deal considering nobody else will repair these monsters without charging an unholy fortune (including Apple if you don't have the extra policy).
* Maps feature will tell you where you are in relation to the nearest Wi-Fi signal. It could be argued that if you don't know where you are to begin with, an iPod with Maps is the least of your worries.
* Genius feature takes your existing songs and makes recommendations for iTunes songs that are similar. Unique and fairly interesting and, yes, it does work.
* With luck, you can manage several hours of battery life depending upon usage. Play a lot of videos and you can count on maybe 2 to 3 hours, tops. I managed to squeeze about 5 hours doing internet surfing, although I could undoubtedly get more if I'd cut down the screen brightness.
* Tons of secondary accessories, probably more than any other similar unit out there. Run "ipod Touch accessories" on EBay and you'll get somewhere around 2,000 items.
* Resale value is high because it's an Apple.
Then the cons:
* Requires iTunes not only to download songs but to operate the unit. Don't like iTunes? Tough. No internet connection? Sorry, can't use the unit unless you find iTunes on a CD or DVD and load it to your PC or Apple. Got a unit on the cheap this way when a neighbor couldn't use it because he had no internet connection.
* Be wary of hard drive sizes. It may state 8, 16 or 32 GB but count on 135 MB of that disappearing to the OS. Should be a law against this. Of note, if it locks up it'll take a 200+ MB download to iTunes to do a restore.
* Still slow to boot and gets toasty quickly. Takes a good 30 seconds to get to the ready screen which is nearly as long as my XP laptop. Gets warm, more so than my 1st generation unit. Both of these problems should be resolved by now.
* Safari browser is great until you scroll. For some reason the screen will go to a checkerboard pattern before it catches up and displays the remaining page. It only takes about a second, but is somewhat disconcerting.
* Never assume it's off until you know for sure. Pushing the power button may only put it to sleep and it still requires the finger swipe on the screen when prompted to actually turn it off. Many a user has found a dead battery the next morning.
* When it goes to sleep, it goes to sleep and this requires a finger swipe unlock on the screen. I've seen users pushing the power switch without realizing a simple tap on the bottom button will do the trick. This is because the screen goes to black and gives no indication of what's going on.
* Speaking of apps, some at the Apple website can be grossly overpriced. Make sure you read the reviews as some of these sound great but actually are rotten; however, once you buy it you own it!
* $200+ and all you get is cheapo plastic ear buds. C'mon, Apple.
* Shiny chrome back and black screen are pleasant to look at but an instant fingerprint and scratch magnets. Be wary of overly thick screen overlays that make finger recognition a real task.
* Still no replaceable battery unless you send it to Apple and pay an $80 fee. Even secondary sites charge $40 for battery replacement. For some reason, replacing the battery on the 2nd generation can cost twice as much as the original version (tougher case to open). Apple still insists on using a soldered battery lead instead of a cell type battery that just pops in.
* Comes with a USB charger but nothing else so if your battery drops low while on a plane or in a car you'd better have backup chargers or you're flat out of luck. That'll add a few bucks to the bill.
* Still no SD or mini/micro SD card slot. Also has the flimsiest power dongle of just about any unit out there and I've seen unfortunate owners with broken power attachments. What about the magnetic type attachment found on Apple notebooks?
* Maps feature is nice, but slow to work. Quite often wouldn't locate me via my Wi-Fi signal even though I was right on top of the router.
* Want to do video conferencing? Too bad, no camera unless you splurge an extra hundred or so for the attachment. Why a camera on the iPhone but not the Touch?
* Buy it from Apple and you'll pay state tax and full ticket retail. Buy it from Amazon and you won't pay taxes but the base price is the same since Apple sets the limits. Discounts are rarely seen. First generation Touches sold by Apple still command original retail price.
Is the iPod Touch worth the money over the competitors? Yes and no. Yes, if you need the latest Apple techno gadget and no if you would rather have a larger unit that has more features for less money.
Similar items from Sony, Nokia and Archos look great but suffer from user and compatibility issues (Sony uses proprietary accessories, the Nokia N810 utilizes Linux that confuses some users and Archos got a bad reputation for charging high amounts for add-ons that should have been standard to begin with). None of these offer the flexibility found with the Touch although it really would be nice if Apple would be a little more flexible in the pricing.
As for you 1st generation owners, don't bother upgrading. The addition of a speaker and volume switch is hardly worth the extra cash outlay.

An awesome ipod & seems to have everything the iphone does except the phone. Lots of good free apps & others aren't too much $. I hate to start a review of any of the great Apple products with negatives, but here goes.
I've had this device over a week and I like it. Some weaknesses: Battery life is surprisingly short and it crashed a few times. The crashes were easy to fix with a re-boot. In a couple of days the Touch seems to have acquired an immunity to crashing, but it could have a relapse. For a while it reminded me of my sickening Microsoft experiences.
Apple really needs to get a battery with a longer life. I had to buy a separate charging battery pack unit (a Kensington) to improve portability. It would also be helpful if you can easily change the battery yourself. One can stretch the battery life a bit by shutting off the wifi, but it's inconvenient.
Also the cost for my 32 G unit is high when you consider the costs of equivalent flash memory cards that Apple should have allowed.
On the positive side, this is the best iPod yet. I bought it in lieu of an iPhone because my wireless carrier (Verizon) , a good, but stogy communications company, can't seem to find a way to acquire a line of the latest and best cell phones. First I would like to say this is a great piece of hardware and the internal software running this device is great. I bought it because all my kids and wife joined the ipod bandwagon and I wanted the WiFi capabilites which aren't offered by many companies. I am a software engineer and in the past have resisted Apple's products because of the way they lock you in with thier propriatary software.
Well to say Apple's i-tunes has been optimized for Windows operating systems is a joke. I have three Vista machines at home and on all three machines had one heck of a time. It took my wife four attempts to get it to install on her new Dell Studio. I have a Dell Studio as well and so far have attempted five installs before it took. However once installed, i-tunes will not recongnize my touch. Now come on Steve Jobs, I know you want me to buy one of your computers but forget it.
I then went to buy an adaptor here on Amazon to play the ipod on my TV. Turns out the new firmware has blocked all the $6 third party cables. Now you have to buy an Apple cable for $50.
Apple has a great product here, but just like in the PC wars of the 1980's they have won the early battles but will lose the war. Apple has not changed, if you are a Windows user i-tunes blows. Be prepared to be force fed the Apple cool aid and ripped off by thier accessories.
Personally I don't like to drink anyone's cool aid whether it's Microsofts or Apples. Like I said above, this is a really cool product, to bad the manufacturer is making the same mistakes they made 25 years ago. My advice would be to look elsewhare and get a player that works well on all operating systems, especially if you are a Windows user.

I purchased a 16 GB iTouch about 3 months ago, and it just recently started having issues; the internal speakers won't turn off even I plug headphones into it. I shipped it off to apple to have it looked at, and I figured that they would replace/fix it because it was still under warranty. However, I received a response from apple claiming that my iTouch had come in contact with liquid and therefore they would not replace/fix the iTouch. Never have I submerged or dumped excessive amounts of water on the iTouch, nor have I have left it out in the rain or anything of that nature. I would warn anyone against buying this product because of my own experience. This was the first apple product I have purchased; it is also the last. I just might sell my laptop cuz this is just like a computer itself. J/K Im never getting rid of my laptop. HAHA! It's not really about the device, a lot of products can play music with normal quality and play it for long, the special thing comes with the apps. I'm doing loads of stuff: controlling my mac from the ipod, making VOIP calls with the iPhone headphones, playing Sims, NFS, checking metro stations, Movie Playing hours.
So far the only complain I have is the back, I now have a protective cover on the back, but without it, it got very very scratched. Just buy one and put it the second you receive it. Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

The iPod does not support "shared key" WEP, and Apple does not tell us this anywhere, nor did tech support when I called them. If you use "shared key" WEP for your wireless LAN, the iPod will not connect and you could experience prolonged frustration. If you switch to "open authentication" under WEP, the connection will be quickly established. Also, the browser does not support Flash and it bothers me at times. These things are why I say 4.5 stars.
Other than that, this is a slick piece of hardware(&software). Super form factor...sound is good if you invest in better headphones...video looks really good...Wifi is really handy (but no Flash is a bummer)...not crazy about being tethered to iTunes, but I must say that it works well and I have not had any problems synching. Overall I really recommend it when compared to everything else out there.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I love this thing. I didn't want to go to the expense of an IPHONE as I was satisfied with my current cell phone. But this is great to check email, surf the net when you are out and wi-fi is available. I have added game apps, and it's great for killing time while waiting for appointments or anytime. It enables me to transfer my calendar on my home pc and it updates each of the calenders each time I charge it. At first the keyboard was awkward, but that lasted about a week. The complete charge takes about a half hour. It's just a great little gadget.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

The ipod is in great shape as stated but we cannot get it to charge or download anything to it. I think it is probably our computer but not knowing for sure and the cost of the ipod we are sending it back.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I'm pretty satisfied with the Touch. It has LOTS of great features and I've been experimenting with the awesome Apps. My only problem so far has been that album art doesn't seem to import accurately. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but many of my albums display art from one album in the list view. However, when playing a song, the correct album art is displayed - anyone have a clue?Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

My first iTouch had a sticky lock button, took it back for a replacement and got one with a screen that had a weird effect when scrolling left-to-right that bugged me to no end. Rather than take it back for a 3rd, sent it into Apple who responded that they found nothing wrong with it, and sent it back as-is. Took it back for a refund and haven't looked back.
It was very enjoyable while I had it, I could see myself using it daily and it makes me want an iPhone. But really, Apple needs to get their stuff together. Supposedly they switched screen manufacturers and the new screens have a weird interlacing effect on scrolling. Terribly annoying. Your mileage may vary.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

Pretty good product overall, nice sleek design, lot's of reasons to own one, if not for music then for just about anything else. You can game, listen to music, read books, surf the net, watch videos on youtube, and much more, all on one handy device.
My only complaint is that you cannot use a stylus on a touch screen device, and when you can you can't drag, you can only tap. Touch screens as most people know are very prone to smearing and collecting anything under the sun. Fingerprints are the main culprit on this machine.
The device is pretty straight forward as far as usage, and what you can't pick up by just fiddling around, you have a descriptive instruction manual for. Zooming in is as simple as placing two fingers on the screen and dragging one inward or outward of the other finger, for scrolling up and down, just drag you finger vertical or horizontal, pretty much exactly what you'd expect. To rearrange your icons just hold your finger on any icon then drag the icons into the order you prefer.
If you don't already own an iPod this is probably the best bet, just depends on the size you want.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.
