I've had this for three months now. I simply can't put it down.
I'm actually a big Apple hater. I'm proud that my last Apple product that I personally owned was an Apple II plus. Thats right. I skipped over 28 years of Apple products.
Why I love the Ipod Touch 2G:
1. Quite simply the wifi is near perfect. It seamlessly connects to my work, home, second work location, brother's house, mom's house. Unbelieveable.
2. The touch screen is frankly near perfect. By far the best touch screen EVER made. And I've tried a bunch from Nokia etc.
3. Web browsing is actually usable.
4. App store is groundbreaking.
5. Itunes is still the best, but needs real competition to push it further.
6. Battery life is very impressive for such a small device.
Cons:
1. No FLAC support.
2. Shinny. Seriously Apple.
3. Immediatly required a decent case and screen protector.
4. Changed charging spec. This is the bane of my existence.
The cons in no way outweigh the pros. It is a near perfect device.
Other thoughts:
You really don't need this large 32GB version if you don't have a large music library. The apps are so small that the 8GB one should suffice. I have about 144 apps on it and they only take up half a GB.

As a device, this is a pretty fantastic (but expensive) time waster. There are thousands of apps available, and some are even useful!
However, as a phone, this is easily the worst cell phone that I have EVER owned. Calls are dropped constantly. It usually takes 1 or 2 tries to even make a call. Ergonomically, the phone doesn't fit at all to your face.
While it is designed to fit well in your pocket, there wasn't any thought put into making it robust for said location. The headphone and charging jacks quickly become unusable with lint. There are also issues with lint fouling the 'Home' button. Unlike the jacks, there is no way to fix this issue (other than buying another overpriced phone).
Also, none of your old iPod and iPhone chargers will work with this as well. Apple really loves to stick it to their customers with a lack of backwards compatability (and I'm a Mac guy....) Best "gadget" I've purchased. I use it mainly for internet and email (must be WiFi connected). Great apps such as weather, sports, info and especially if you're a gamer. Very easy to navigate and not at all difficult to use. Videos such as You Tube, movies, etc. are amazing quality and clarity. Unbelievable graphics. Only drawbacks, and by no means a reason not to own this, built in speaker is not very loud, even at highest setting (but great sound quality when connected to headphones or speakers). Ok, so just like almost everybody else I Loooove my Ipod Touch. I have only had it for 1 month, and I have to say that it's great in so many ways. The one thing that keeps on annoying me is the fact that everytime I plug it on my computer, the time and date changes so I have to reset them all the time; which in return messes up all my settings. Other than that I love this ipod, so many apps and the beauty of it is that most of them are free. I have yet to find a good FM Transmitter for my car. Wholly bizbag! Now it's apparent why Apple is the leader in the MP3 world. I was taken by surprise at the power of the Itouch. In fact I found myself enthralled at the multitude of functions this little unit is capable of. The clarity of sound and crispness of the color screen are unsurpassed in todays world. Do not get this iPod... It says it's an 8GB however, when I got it in the mail and hooked it up it only showed it was a 7GB! Talk about false advertising... I purchased an iPhone, and of course, went with the more expensive 16gig one. After the first week, phone would not sync with PC properly, returned to AT&T, soft reboot, no help, returned to AT&T again, hard reboot, no help, then received message on iPhone, something about airplane mode. Returned to AT&T again, sent to Apple store, port was corroded, all within 3-4 weeks, water damage. The only possible cause of this water damage was that the iPhone was in our bedroom, on the other side of the room from a humidifier. Called Apple customer service. Warranty was void since there was "water damage", and we were out $300.00. I now have a Blackberry Bold, and it is wonderful. I would give 0 stars if it were possible. My interest in the beginning was aesthetic plus features...as previous owner of the first Sony HD-1,(which by the way has an excellent sound for the amount of compression that it had) and Creative Zen Vision M also has good sound and easy music transfer from Windows, I was not really sure how the sound would stacked up against those two..Well, it passed my listening test, but at the same time it was disappointing because it will stutter or semi skip in random, not with all the music, it was very frustrating, I did checked online if there are similar problems out there and sure enough,owners of ipod classics, nanos etc are experiencing the same anomaly..I was about to give up and then lo and behold a new update was released and it had solve that particular dilemna... but there is still the problem of wifi connection, which is sporadic at best..but it is the least of my concerned I do most of my online activity a home and work anyway...the two most important factor for me are the flash drive and music portability with the excellent cover flows feature, with that I am willing to overlook the other failings, albeit I paid for those...hence the 3 stars..Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

This is my first ipod. All over, it is a well done product. A lot of cool apps to keep you from boredom. But this ipod as a media player...it's just average or even below average in some cases.
My other MP3 player are the Sony Ericsson i750 & Sonly Clie TJ37, they blow this ipod away when it comes to the sound quality. It's hard to believe there's no EQ for ipod Touch, sound quality is flat as the result of all genres play on one flat EQ setting. iTunes 8 is extremely slow on Windows XP doesn't help much neither.
Video is cool, instant access to youtube. Once again, lack of video controls. It only has brightness control, no contrast (I might be wrong on this)
Pro:
- Near perfection integration between iPod & iTune, very easy to use
- Display lyrics on screen (if lyric is loaded on iTune)
- Superb user interface
- Accelerometer really brings fun out of the games, kinda like Wii.
- Supports microphone, which enables to use VOIP such as Skype over wifi
- A tone of cool apps and a tone of junk apps
Cons:
- Too large and fragile to be an everyday portable MP3 player, unless you have a man bag. lol. One drop, it is gone. I've dropped my i750 many times and it still rocks.
- Average sound quality with no EQ support. What is Apple thinking?
- Turtle speed with iTune 8 on Windows XP
- Average earphone
- expensive accessory. $15.00-30.00 for a piece of thin silicon skin that is made in China?
If you want a solid and durable MP3 player, this is not the one for you. But if you want an average MP3 player with lots apps to keep you entertained, then this is a great gadget for you!
Update 3/08:
Good news, it does have an EQ. Bad news, it is buried in the Setting->Music->EQ.The difference between the EQ settings is barely noticeable, it's better than none.
It also a bug, its clock will go crazy when it connects with the PC where iTunes 8 is already running. You have to make sure iTunes 8 is not running on the PC before plug in the USB, otherwise you have to set the clock each time.
Apple, iTunes movie rental is a great idea. But $3.99 for 24 hours on a tiny screen? Hmmm...you should have a 0.99 rental for iphone/ipod touch category.

The only bad thing about this ipod touch it's very easy to scratch and also it's very easy to crack the glass or window. Wich I have done all ready and I only had it for a few weeks. But other then that the ipod is still intact and works find. No lag what so ever but one thing I wish it had is a better wi-fi connector. Maybe they could make an adapter for it or something. But besides those nothing really bad about it. Holds over 2000 songs or more depending on your quality of mp3s and or wma's. Holds over 100 movies wich you can easyly convert your dvds to m4p format. Then transfer them to your ipod. So all and all it's a great product minus the two flaws. But every new technology is bound to have them. This is the worst product I've purchased from Apple. I've recieved my ipod touch less than a week ago and it is of no use now.
After synchronizing it to itunes it stated there is a newer version of the firmware so i clicked the update button. Now the new version is not working on the system and everytime I click restore error 13 and error 14 is appearing in a window.
I've run all the diagnostic test and nothings hapening. I've sent a service request to apple, but just trying to send an email to them is another nighmare. You have to go through a million and one pages before you can do so.
Everything that needs to be added to the ipod touch must go through itunes, and what is worse you cannot just click one item from your playlist and add it to the ipod touch play list. You have to synchronize the entire system all the time. Such a waste of time.
I've recently purchased a psp for my son and the ease of adding music, videos, ebooks, adiobooks is so much easier. Even if you're not using psp manager you can do so using windows.
Not to mention there's a lot of ghosting on the screen of the ipod touch when I'm watching a movie. The psp is much sharper for viewing movies.

I LOVE my iPod touch. I was worried about which size to get but I find the 16 GB is more than enough. So many things to do with it. There are more than enough free apps to keep you busy and for a few bucks here and there you will find some good games cheap. Took a little bit to get used to typing on the small keyboard but once I got used to it I can type pretty quick. I also purchased a silicone case for some protection. I've had this iPod for about a day and tested many of its features. My music collection was too big for this device, first off, and for some reason there is not a drag and drop feature to add music to the device, rather playlists have to be added to the sync list. Mildly frustrating.
The option for apps and games for this device is amazing. Whatever you're looking for it's out there, from medical reference to koi pond. I will most likely use this device for more of the apps then as a music player. It's too distracting and flashy for a music player - in contrast with the oh-so-simple iPod shuffle.
The one feature I'm pleasantly surprised by is how effective and easy it is to get on wifi and start surfing the web. That was the one reason I chose the Touch over the Nano or Classic, and it works like a charm. That will be the feature I utilize the most frequently.
The battery was enough to last a day with constant use - which is to be expected.
It is easy to use and the interface is pure art. The hardware is sleek and gorgeous but easily smudged.

I LOOOOOOOOVE this little machine. It is super intuitive and very easy to use right out of the box. I just love my IPod touch. It holds so much and is extremely easy to use. The applications that are avaliable are great. It is great to be able to go somewhere with WiFi or your home network and download things and check your email. My only problem is make sure you back up your IPod the way apple recommends, when switching Ipods or you will have some problems reinstalling the playlists. I had forgotten where I was supposed to meet a client one day and had no way of checking my email (no blackberry or near computer). I found out that the Ipod touch was for more than music and found my mobile email device. I bought the Ipod touch 8GB and now I can constantly check my email freely/for free. Though low on memory I use it for one app, to hold my photos and to check my email and leave the memory/video role to my Zune 120 GB. The Ipod Touch is the perfect mobile web product allowing me to check and write email with ease. If you do any sort of business or are in college get an Ipod touch. I had a 30GB 5G Classic, which was just fine for my purposes - until I played around with a pal's iPhone. I knew then that I had to have a Touch. I purchased the 8GB model last Tuesday and it has been wonderful!
I can surf the Web, check/send emails, play fun games and read ebooks all in one compact package. The battery life is impressive; I've been able to watch videos with very little "juice" expended. Speaking of videos, they look great on the generous screen!
Now I might just have to buy a 32GB...but I'm waiting to see if more capacity will be available this spring or summer. Fingers crossed!

I've had this for about 2 months now and am really happy with it. I'd been waiting for a PDA device that would play music, and this fits the bill. I use it for keeping track of my budget, calorie counting, infrequent notes, ebook reading and (so far) infrequent music listening. My ONLY quibble with this device is that the only way to get book content onto the device (at least with my apps) is via wifi. I bought a wireless router for home and had it set up (then it mysteriously lost the connection the next time I tried it, days later) and it worked well. However, work has our network locked down solid and wifi is a dismissible offense. What I'd like to be able to do is piggyback off my computer's connection via the USB cable. I've not found any way to do that that does not involve jailbreaking the device, which I am loath to do. I'd give 5 stars but for this unfortunate feature omission.

what can I say, I LOVE this ipod. Not just that I have over 2000 songs with me at all times... but the games and the apps are wonderful. I am not a computer gaming fiend, but I downloaded some racing games to find out how much fun it is to use the ipod as a steering device and I was hooked. My four year old nephew and I spend hours playing on the ipod every Saturday. I also use an app to monitor my diet and exercise as well as several apps that are just cool to look at when I'm feeling stressed or bored. Listening to podcasts on my 45 minute commute everyday not only makes the time go by faster but I am really learning all sorts of cool new ideas.
