Folks:

Got a Touch from a Target store in downtown Minneapolis. A day later while downloading music from the Internet, the Touch did not respond to my touch. So, returned it and picked up another Touch from another Target store. Two days later, same news...Returned it back and took an oath that I won't touch another Touch. Maybe I got a lemon, maybe the entire shipment to Target were lemons...Two data points of 0 successes in two trials is good enough evidence for this poor statistician to take his hard earned money elsewhere.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I was very disappointed with the state in which the iPod arrived. Although the front of the device had minimal scratches, the back was damaged beyond repair. I was going to give it as a gift, but after seeing it, I decided not to bother. I hope future product descriptions do a better job at properly describing the product. I was very disappointed. Cheapest Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL

Summary:
Xm & Sirius great but personal portable radio models are way too expensive for the technology you get. Slacker G2 good concept but too new with inadequate support and bugs not worked out. iPhone/iTouch I am the happiest. Read on for more detail:

I first started with satellite radio xm to be exact.

What I like: unlike an iPod you can unlimited streaming music. And a selection of 100's of radio stations to choose from. And what was really great was based on what model of handheld you have you could store your favorite songs and make playlists right from the unit. And you get all this for a quarterly fee of under $40. Also depending on the model you can transfer your own MP3 songs to the unit.

What I didn't like: The portable radios where extremely expensive and low tech compared to an iTouch, or Slacker personal radio. I have owned several models through the years starting Pioneer XM2Go original model which was good. Then bought the Samsung Helix which was more small and compact with more features however lost the tuner cartridge which you needed to get satellite radio and it was just too many pieces to have and lose to make it work. Then my final purchase was the Delphi SkiFi radio. If you are reading this DO NOT BUY THIS! It was complete junk. It constantly froze up worked 25% of the time. Tried updating the software and it did not take. Sat on the phone for 1 hour for tech support and was still on hold. And the reception was horrible in the vehicle. And for paying over $150 and having it less then a year I had enough.

This then brought me to the store to shop for a new xm or Sirius radio. I then was introduced to Slacker radio G2.

What I like: Is that you had streaming music just like satellite radio. However you didn't need a separate receiver to make this happen it runs off wifi. So if you have a wifi connection your good to go and if you didn't have a connection if you where traveling etc. it has 15 hours stored of music for you to listen to. And what was cool was you can make customized radio stations. All you had to do was type in an artist you liked for example Madonna and it would add similar artists you might like such as Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilar, Pink, etc. This was all for free and if you wanted to pay extra you can store songs to and create play lists.

What I didn't like: Of course I wanted it all so I bought the premium plus subscription. What I didn't know was that the G2 was not compatible with Apple computers so if wanted to download my MP3, create playlist, etc. that was not possible with an Apple computer. That's o.k. I had two other Windows based computers. However the firmware that you need with from Slacker would not download on either one of those computers. I tried contacting the tech support however you can only do it via e-mail or chat which is only available during the weekdays. And trying to solve a problem that way can be quite frustrating. I paid close to $180 and for that I should get the service I deserve. I feel the concept of this is good however it's so new and there problems have not been worked out yet and they do not have adequate support. I was at my friend's house and saw her iTouch and for what she paid was close to the Slacker but more function in addition to radio.

So I returned my Slacker G2 because it did not do what it said it was to do and exchanged it for an iPhone.

What I like: It does everything and anytime anywhere no additional gizmos needed. Keep this in mind the difference between the iPhone and iTouch is that the phone of course is a phone but you can get internet wherever you can get phone service and phone plans have a fee. iTouch has all the same options but you need wifi to do any internet functions. I just bought the iPhone because I needed a new phone too. So in addition to streaming radio you can get other applications like facebook, podcasts, games, etc. There are so many to choose from, some of them are free, some of the are not. It's virtually a personal computer in the palm of your hand.

What I didn't like: I can still use Slacker streaming radio however you can't save or store songs you have to purchase them from iTunes then make a playlist. And battery life isn't the longest but what do you expect with all you get?

What is not to love about the iTouch. One of the coolest and most enjoyable toys to come along in a long time. I will not go into all the techs and specs and it has been done here. I love mine and is by far the coolest gadget I own. I did get the 32GB version to hold all my CDs and I have about 600 CDs downloaded in the iTouch as well as tons of photos and lots of apps. And I still have about 4GB left to go! Love this little machine!Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

8G is not quite enough. I have an old 60G iPod and that's not enough. How could I survive with a 8G could? Surprisingly, people can adjust to it. Wish I had the money to get a 32G but iPod touch is the best. iPhone is even better but AT&T? Oh well, I'll get it this year.

Either get a iPod touch or iPhone, you won't regret it. Get the most memory you can afford since the memory can't be expanded, or get the cheapest one and save the money for the newer model.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I will try to keep this short...I have owned a Zune, a Zen, a half dozen other mp3/video players, and my BlackJack 2 cell phone also plays music and movies.

NONE of them come anywhere close to doing what these ipod Touch's can do!I have loved mine since day one and keep 15-20 TV episodes on it all the time, along with a hundred or so of my favorite songs, a number of pictures, my schedule, email, to do list, contacts, etc.

It connect to my wireless network and pushes my email to it, I can IM from it, surf the web, pay bills, and even shop with it. (Yes, I have the AMAZON app installed.)There are THOUSANDS of applications that are easily downloaded and installed while connected wirelessly or while connected to Itunes. There is a calendar, contact list, weather, stock tracker, external speaker, YouTube, Maps, Calculater, etc...oh, AND IT PLAYS GAMES as well, and there are thousands of them as well. Some are free, some you pay for, nearly all have a fun trial so you can see if you like it.

Basically this device does everything. I recently Jailbroke mine which allows changing the themes, fonts, adding in more content, etc., and in a nutshell lets you customize it exactly the way you want it. (For those curious, there is a new app that does the Jailbreak on a 2nd gen touch...just Google QUICKFREEDOM. It took me all of 15 minutes and now I love this thing even more.)

The ACCELEROMETER built into it makes many apps even more fun! It senses if you tilt or turn the device and adjusts accordingly. If you are reading something in portrait mode and want it wider you can just turn it and the page will rotate too. Nike also has an app already included that turns it into a pedometer which has a handful of options like your "power song" so it will kick that on if you get off pace, tracks calories, distance

My next Cellphone will definitely be an iPhone due to how amazing these are. Apple hit a home run with the iTouch. Don't even bother looking at any other "multiple media player." None of them can do what this one does. Oh and make sure you order a screen protector film of some kind. Regardless of what others say they WILL scratch. I ordered 2 of these from Amazon and the film is just perfect and a breeze to install. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FB6S4A/sr=8-18/qid=1239804508/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1239804508&sr=8-18Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

Overall, I am pleased with the iTouch (I have 8GB 2nd gen). I love the availability of the apps store, the calendar, and of course the ipod features. The WiFi capability is very neat and the speed is acceptable. The only way this could be better is if WiFi was more readily available outside of my home. Calendar and email will not sync unless have WiFi connectivity. Caution: if you plan to use the iTouch for your work email and calendar, check with your IT people to make sure this will work. I had some initial trouble with mine.

The iTouch is great for me because I do not want to pay monthly service for iPhone, but I still have same feaures. I have had a lot of fun with my iTouch.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I have been a fan of Apple products for ages and they never let me down, great customer service, reliable hardware and good customer service.
The latest and the greatest from Apple is the iPod Touch, it's like a laptop but much smaller and cheaper, what makes the iPod Touch awesome are all of the Apps that available out there.
I don't look at my iPod Touch as just a media player anymore, it's also the best most useful gadget i have even owned.
My Wife loves it as well and my kids won't put the darn thing down thanks to all the Apps for Kids available out there.
Before the iPod Touch my Kids were playing their Nintendo DS Lite all the time and they have not touched the DS ever since i bought the Touch, it's been months.

Do yourself a favor and get this thing, it's awesome in every way possible!

I'm in LOVE! I don't know how I ever survived without one! The possibilities are endless. My husband uses one in his medical practice for billing codes and translation. He was able to easily communicate with an Arabic patient. I use it for video, games, pod casts, check e-mail, surf the internet and oh-so-many other things!! Great quality. The speaker is not so loud, but I usually use a headset or speakers if I want loud music. Love the touch screen. Video is clear and not too small to enjoy. Highly recommend. Well apple itouch basic is simple for me to figure out but I only have one problem with their service is their techical support. I'm having problem with sync games that I've purchased for my ipod touch site. I try to dowload it and it tells me to authorize the computer. But when I went to authorize it, the computer told me it is authorized.

Till this day I can't find the darn support phone number. I am pissed off, apple is asking me to pay for their service support and I never even got any support the first time around. Oh, and user's manuel is not included in the package you buy so anyone with less ability to figure it out on their own then me will be stuck and I can't even renew my credit card information on ebay. If it weren't for the bad service support I would've given it two more stars.

so, if you don't have even the basic computer knowledge, DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT. I can't even find the technical support phone number on their website for my kind of problem.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I bought a new iPod Touch 2g 16gb right when they came out at the end of 2008. I love it and I use it every day. I like it so much that last week I ordered another one. This time I decided to get a 32gb model.

When I was setting up the 32gb model, I noticed some severe problems with the screen. Overall, there was less detail in the image. For example, text labels for program icons were rough and pixilated around the edges.

Also, when there was any kind of motion in the screen (flipping through menu pages, movement in video, scrolling email messages) I could see harsh horizontal lines flickering throughout the parts that were moving. Even when nothing was moving on the screen, there was a slight but irritating flicker in the picture every few seconds. My 2g 16gb iPod Touch does not do any of this!

I tried watching part of a video on my new 32gb iPod and little lines of pixels were flickering throughout the picture. When I watch the same video file on my 16gb, the picture is solid and sharp. The 32gb model looks like it has serious interlacing problems, like there are always scan lines running through the image.

I went to the Apple store to ask for advice. Two employees told me that they could definitely see the lines running through the screen of my new iPod touch and one "genius" admitted that it was a common problem in the iPods. (At first he told me that _all_ iPod touches have screens like that, but when I told him my 2g 16gb Touch was fine he changed his story and said that maybe 10% are bad.)

I was hoping to exchange my defective model at the store for one that worked, but the Apple employee discouraged me from doing that. He told me that if I exchange it at the Apple Store, I might get another one with a bad screen or I might end up with a used or refurbished model that is in much worse shape than the one I just bought. He recommended that I return it to the retailer instead.

On my way out of the Apple Store, I tested a few of the models on display. All of the iPod Touches had defective screens with the same severe interlacing problem. However all of the iPhones looked perfect, just like my 16gb iPod Touch. If Apple knows this is a problem, and if they obviously know how to make a screen that works, why won't they fix or replace the defective ones?

Since the Apple Store wouldn't help me, I crossed my fingers and returned the defective 32gb iPod to Amazon for a replacement. I received the replacement today, and it has exactly the same problem. I'm returning the second defective 32gb iPod Touch for good, and I won't order another one.

If you do an internet search for iPod Touch and "interlacing" or "scan lines" you'll find a lot of people are having the exact same problem with recent 32gb iPod Touches.

I still love my 2g 16gb iPod Touch and I'll keep using it until it dies, but I doubt I'll buy another Apple product again until the company faces up to this issue and apologizes to its customers. The screen on the 16gb 2g I bought last year is wonderful, and the iPod Touch itself is an incredible little machine. I know Apple can do this right, but I'm not going to keep giving them my money when they fail to take responsibility for manufacturing problems and/or obviously defective merchandise.

Buyer beware!Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

First of all, I want to say that I strive to make my reviews as helpful as possible. So please tell me it you think my review is helpful so I can improve my future reviews. I would suggest downloading the latest version of iTunes before buying an iPod or especially an iTouch. I had my iTunes library finished before I even ordered an iTouch. I put 7 movies, 48 albums, 6 audio podcasts, 1 audio book, and over 150 photos on iTunes. And yet my iTouch is still only half full. It can be pretty nerve racking to hope that nothing will go wrong during a sycning prosses that takes over 20 minutes! And something most likely will go wrong. But if you read the user guides found at www.apple.com/support, you shouldn't have too much trouble setting up your iTouch. You have to have an iTunes account to buy songs and podcasts and register movies, which can be obtained by having an Apple ID (at least that's how I got mine). Once you 're all sycned and powered up, you can start playing with your new toy. By touching and holding on any application, you can rearrange and delete applications. You can only delete downloaded applications though. Flip through cover flow by tilting your iTouch on its side in the music application. Or surf the web using Safari. I've found the Safari application works just fine most of the time. And a little note regarding the home page: I have not found a way to remove a home screen, so if you add the New York Times to your home screen, I'm not sure if there's any way to get it off later. And unless you're constanly on the internet, you will want to turn off the wireless. It really drains the battery. You would only get like 2 and a half hours of internet before the battery dies. The email is fast, and it gives you many options on how your itouch and your email server work together. For instance, when you delete an item on your itouch, it will either be displayed on the server as trash, or it will just be removed from the inbox and moved to the folder of your choice. You can accsess all of the same folders you can accsess on you regular email account and edit them in the same ways. Calendar, maps, contacs, weather, and stocks all work as you might expect them to work. Choose many different locations to be displayed on weather. The same with stocks. I am amazed a the sensativity of the screen and ease of use. Although it may take some skill to gwt through the set-up process, it's absolutely amazing to see what Apple has done with the 2nd GEN of the iPod touch. Read some of my other reviews at the app store on iTunes.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I was a little skeptical at all the hype. I looked over other MP3/Media players from Samsung and Creative. They both had excellent offerings. I was stuck between the latest Zen and this. I paid up for the touch becuase you have access to Apple Apps store, and could use it for a miriad of different things. The wireless works sweet, I am even able to connect to school via VPN with it.

The touch messaging takes a little getting used to, but after that its great. I have to hand it to Apple on this one, they knocked it out of the park. If you travel a lot, and are looking for a new phone too, I would take a look at the iPhone offerings also. Either way, being able to load it up with movies, music, and podcasts is great. You can even download podcasts via the player itself. I love this thing, if you are on the fence between this and something else and price might be an issue, you sure wont be sorry for paying a little extra. I certainly wasn't, it really exceeded all my expectations.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL

Thursday, January 14, 2010 by Smith - Leave a comment

So I finally gave in and bought one... thanks to my Tax rebate. Why I waited this long is a mystery. It probably had to do with the fact that I already own 3 other Mp3 players (not including my Blackberry flip... which does play mp3s too) and that the Ipod Touch isn't the most "affordable" piece of technology. Whatever the case may be... I absolutely have no buyers remorse about this purchase. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not an Apple fanatic. I don't even own a Mac computer. I consider myself a PC guy... I like upgrading my own stuff, it's more fun that way. But I've known for a very long time that what Apple excels at is "user interface" and "innovative designs". The Ipod products illustrates this fact very well. Which Ipod? Well, all of them! Each is innovative and easy to use in it's own unique way. But the one I'm reviewing today, is the Ipod Touch.

I picked the 16GB current 2G (second generation) version. I figured that 8GB wasn't enough memory for me, and that the 32GB was a bit over-priced. So, sweet 16 was the one for me :)

So, I know that if you're looking to buy one... you have some questions on how it compares to the previous generation (1st generation) version and how it compares to the iPhone. Here's what I gathered from my research:

How it differs from the first generation Ipod Touch:
The 2G Ipod Touch evolved a bit from the 1st Gen Ipod Touch. The 2G actually has a slightly thicker design ( .33 inches vs .31 inches) than the 1G. I believe the 2G is thicker because they put a larger battery in the 2G. This results in a longer maximum playback time (36 hrs vs 22 hrs for mp3 playback) before it needs to be recharged. Also, the 2G version has built in speakers... something the 1G lacked. I believe the screen resolution (number of pixels) and size stayed the same though.

How it differs from the Apple iPhone.
There are a few things that set it apart from the iPhone. The most obvious difference is that you can't make phone calls on the Ipod Touch (duh!). Actually, this isn't entirely true... you could theoretically use an external mic to make phone calls using "Skype" or other "Voip" methods (but we won't get into that in this review). Other differences aren't so obvious. For example, the Ipod Touch doesn't have a built in microphone like the iPhone does. It also lacks a camera, microphone (but you can add an external one), proximity sensor, assisted GPS, and Blue-tooth (But this may be temporary... see notes for details). Also, the Ipod Touch is available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB models. The iPhone is only currently available up to 16GB (but the 32GB upgrade is expected to be unveiled in June 2009)

What it shares with the Iphone is a similar size and resolution multi-touch screen, built-in speakers, volume buttons on the side, accelerometer, home button, Mp3 and video playback, similar body dimensions (the Ipod Touch is a bit slimmer than iPhone), and the ability to play most Apps from the Apple Store that the iPhone can. Naturally, the Apps that require the use of a camera or 'assisted GPS' won't work on the Ipod Touch. The included "Maps" App does use Wifi to zero in on your current physical location though... and can give you directions to an address, but not in "real time, turn by turn" instructions like GPS can.

Pros:
-Amazing Multi-touch Screen Interface
-Beautiful Screen, sharp and vibrant colors. Brightness is adjustable.
-Plays most Apps from Apple Store (many Apps are Free!)
-Plays mp3s and Video files
-Built-in Speakers
-Dedicated volume, power, and home buttons
-Built-in Wifi and Web Browser (both of which work very well)
-Password protection (you can even set it up to erase your data after 1o failed password attempts)
-Very slim and pocket-able/portable

Cons:
-No Bluetooth (see notes)
-No Microphone (see notes)
-No Camera
-No GPS
-Battery life could be better... I have to recharge it everyday. Integrated battery is a hassle when it finally loses it's ability to recharge someday. You'll have to take it to Apple to get it replaced.
-Screen is prone to scratches/damage... so invest in a case that protects it!
-No expandable memory (a Micro-SD expansion slot would've been great)

Conclusion:
The 2G Apple Ipod Touch is an amazing piece of technology with stellar user interface and multiple functionality. It's more like a futuristic "swiss army" knife than an Mp3 player. That's largely because of the fact that it's functions evolve with the current applications that are available for it. There are thousands of apps available (many of them are free) and there are constantly more being made by companies and individuals large and small. This spirit of "innovation" is the key to it's success. Not many devices out there illustrate the idea of melding form and function as well as the Ipod Touch does. This not only makes it a great gadget but truly a thing of beauty. Still.... there is room for improvement (as with anything in lilfe)

Important Notes:
There's a few extra things I'd like to mention about the features on this 2G Ipod Touch. Even though there isn't an integrated Microphone (like on the iPhone), you can still use many of the Apps that use a Mic (like Shazam!) by plugging in an external Mic. Before you go out and buy one though, you may actually have one laying around that may work for you. For example, if you have a hands-free headset for your cell-phone that uses a head-phone jack and has an integrated mic inside of it... you may be able to plug it in and use it as a Mic. The one that came with my Blackberry Flip phone worked amazingly well. They also sell external mics that look like little pill capsules that plug into the headphone jack that you can buy.

Also, even though there is no "Blue-tooth" function currently on the 2G Ipod Touch... Apple announced that the new software upgrade ( iPhone OS 3.0) will activate the Blue-tooth Chip that is already inside the 2G Ipod Touch. This will enable Blue-tooth functions as well as FM radio support! When this will happen? Only Apple knows... but hopefully soon!Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

This was a gift for my teen daughter. She begged and begged for one. After doing a happy dance when she got it, she immediately loaded hundreds of songs and dozens of apps onto it....no problems at all! I did shop around, and Amazon had the best price. The product is great. iTunes has its issues, but as far as this product goes, we are very happy!Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

I've purchased Apple products for over 25 years. This is a great gadget that is probably a bridge to a true handheld computer. The tech is great and it looks great. But, like so many Apple products, it just isn't practical for everyday use. It is built more for a museum than a user. I wish for once Apple would design and sell a product that doesn't require $30-$50 of 3rd party protective gear, like cases and films, just to not scratch the hell out of it. I wouldn't think of taking this to the beach or pool, even with the cases and film. For a mobile device, Apple has a long way to go to make it truly practical and user friendly. I'd expected a high-volume flash player that would enable me to watch vids and play music - and hold allllll my family pix - which it does, with aplomb. But it does so much more. It offers me the convenience of using it as a mini netbook. I can easily read and write email and use its browser to surf the web, if need be, and it's very fast. I also sync'd its calendar and contacts with my Google calendar/contacts wirelessly, which in turn syncs with my Outlook calendar/contacts on my laptop and home PC. Another interesting attribute: you can download Pandora or AOL Radio for free from Apple's App Store, and listen to streaming music from Internet radio. Finally, I use it as my alarm clock. All around, it's a beautiful device and well worth the money. I purchased the 16gb, btw, which perfectly suits my needs. Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.

All of the neat lights & whistles in the world become irrelevant if the battery life of a device can't support the functionality. Amazon.com was great in its customer support--providing prepaid shipping for the return and, I assume, a full refund once they receive the product. Now, on to comments on the product.

First, Apple seems to believe that its products are self-explanatory. There is not even a "Quick Start" guide included with the product--everything is online. Maybe folks who are on their third or fourth or n-th iPod can learn as they go, but those of us who are new to iPods need support and guidance. Perhaps, Apple doesn't care about expanding its market (to us). But, what led us to return this item was the really, really bad battery life--consistent with the vast majority of blogs on the Touch 2G. Case in point, with about 20% battery life left, iPod was shut down for the night (fully shut down, not just sleeping). The next morning, "critically low battery" was how we were greeted. And, we had not even graduated to video downloads--just CD rips and internet surfing. Further, each time we put the iPod on a charger, it would power up--kind of counter-productive to recharging the battery. In one case, it glowed like a night light for the entire time it was charging, and the next morning still showed "low batt." Nothing in the online owners' manual suggested that this was normal--or, for that matter, what to expect while charging. This goes back to my opening comments about owner support. Why does Apple keep useful information so secret?

I bought the iPod Touch, rather than an iPhone, because I didn't want my use of neat functions (fun & games) to leave me with a dead cell battery (not good, in case of emergency). My experience with the iPod Touch 2G has confirmed this thinking--a cell phone is for making calls & (maybe) texting; if you want toys, get another device.

Conclusions: At best, give Apple some time to improve the battery performance of the iPod Touch 2G. Without battery life, you've got nothing! At worst, move on to another toy.Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.
