I've had this Touch for a couple months now and have used it quite a bit. Overall it's a good product. It's not flawless though. Apple's fanatical devotion to simplicity leaves more advanced users with less functionality than they'd like. For example, it would be great to create a playlist on the touch (rather than only through iTunes); you can't do that though. One other flaw is that the motion sensor in mine malfunctions sometimes and doesn't switch to display video when the device is turned one way or the other. The other main complaint is the battery life - it seems mine plays video for only 4-5 hours. Not even long enough for a flight across the US. Also, the GPS functionality does not work well at all. I think mine is actually malfunctioning.
The things I like most about it though are the many podcasts (video, especially) that are available over iTunes, most of which are free. The sound quality is good and it's nice to download iPhone apps for this Touch.

Bought this for my teenage son - who absolutely loves it. Of course doesn't quite match up to his sisters Iphone (has to have wi-fi), but is still an outstanding piece of equipment. Love all ipods - just keep far away from water of course!

I have to say, this is my first ipod since my 1st generation white firewire and the ipod experience has vastly improved. I am a Mac user and have been for 15 years or so, so the integration with all of my applications such as email, calendar, contacts is very useful. As well as movies and photos always with me is very handy.

We have a 10/2 fios connection but the speed of my internet hasn't made browsing any faster. Safari is abit slow on the touch, it's not horrible 8-10 seconds for sites like cnn for example. I can go outside of my house and have access to email. There are great apps out there that help you connect and see to open wifi spots.

I have my gmail, yahoo mail, hotmail, work email, all on here. (I have multiple accounts for a couple of these services) I don't have to login to all of my online accounts to access them. Instead I have a single application to view all of my email, reply, forward and even see attachments. (Large attachments such as pdf's take longer to download and view.)

synced with my mac so anything I enter in either the ipod or computer gets synced so I have everything always updated and current. The weather app is nice also. (there are alot of nice free ones besides the apple weather app.)

I use visualhub to convert avi's to an itunes format and sync to the ipod. The screen is nice and clear for viewing and if you have a higher end pair of headphones the ipod sends great sound to them. I have usually about 4-5 movies on there all the time. Music is nice to have a couple of albums on here, again sound is great.

ok now this is addictive, there are thousands of app out there, alot of them free. Useful stuff like news, weather, productivity like todo apps. Financial calculators etc. There is no way to get a refund on apps so be sure to read the reviews and look at screenshots. Alot of paid apps have free "lite" versions available so try these out before you purchase a full version. I have a couple of games, todo, facebook, twitter, password manager.

My workflow has changed since using my ipod. Sure it's marketed as a entertainment tool, but I have used it more to be productive than anything. Having access to my email, a todo app (Things), a password manager (mSecure), weather (Weather Channel), News (AP News, Amazon and Bank of America access, all make this a great PDA. THis is a great ipod. Don't hesitate.

The ipod touch was the perfect solution for me when I'm stuck "waiting" somewhere with nothing to do. I can jump on and check my email, play one of the applications (available to download for free or a small fee), watch music videos or listen to music. (I even downloaded a recipe application to help out in the kitchen-sure beats paging through a thick recipe book). Even though I mostly use the headphones, I like that the 2nd gen has a speaker so you can listen with or without. There are numerous extremely well-written and thorough reviews of this device on here, so I'll keep this brief. I'm basing this on my iPod 2nd Generation 16GB model that I purchased.
The Good: Although I purchased this device to use solely for music, its online capabilities, and a couple of games, I've ended up having a freakin' blast with this thing! It's intuitive and extremely easy to navigate. Being a musician, I had no idea how many cool apps were out there for this thing! Virtual guitar, keyboard, drum, etc. applications that - while you can't use them like their full-blown relatives - allow you to expand on an idea or just see how one works out when you're out and about, sans instrument! This - in and of itself - is worth its weight in gold. I won't go into all the applications there are, because I'd be here all day. Case and point, the appliations make this device worth so much more than I could've imagined. Although I could certainly have leveraged 32GB (I'm one of those guys with about 4TB of data between movies, games, music, etc.), I've found 16GB to suffice quite nicely! Oh, and jailbreaking the device is really simple, so long as you make sure you know what you're doing. Although I work in tech. support and am a very tech-savvy individual, I read up on it for an hour or two prior to doing it (on Vista x64, no less, which is the least optimal environment at the moment for jailbreaking, lol).
The Bad: As far as the device itself goes, the only, "bad" thing I can think of is an issue I've noticed others have had: applications randomly quit working. You'll go to load a purchased application and just before it starts loading its data, it'll kick you back to the home screen. Solution: After you've synced your applications in iTunes, delete the applications you've downloaded (on the home-screen, press and hold on any icon until they all start wiggling, then click the X's with circles around them to delete) that are effected, then re-sync your iPod with iTunes and they should reinstall and work just fine!
You can't create playlists within the device; you have to do it from iTunes. I don't really leverage playlists, though, so I have no isssues with this. My problems from here on out have nothing to do with the device itself, but rather, iTunes. First of all, it can take FOR-EVER to transfer MP3's to your iPod, due to iTunes', "feature" where it makes it so that songs have gapless playback. It pisses me off that Apple doesn't allow that functionality to be disabled, but I'm just one in a long line of people on that bandwagon. Also, I've noticed iTunes hangs a LOT for no apparent reason. I've even given ALL Apple processes running the highest priority below, "realtime" and it STILL hangs! This is on a powerhouse dual-core x64 machine with 4GB RAM, so I have the resources.
Anyway, my main gripe is with iTunes and its interaction with the iPod.
The Beautiful: The device itself. The interface, its usability, its exterior... Apple tries hard to focus on the UI and UX of its products and this device is exemplary of how they succeed.
Overall: 5 Stars! I'm a technophile, so I'm used to the notion that not all devices coming off the same production line will act exactly the same in any and every scenario. Though I've had the application issue once and iTunes is a fairly horrid application most of the time, I don't deem either to be a reason to rate this any less than 5 stars. Why? Because the good WAY outweighs the bad... for me, at least.
This rating has been brought to you by an avid Microsoft fan. I don't partake in the OS Wars (I think they're stupid; use what works for you and I'll use what works for me and we're all happy), so I'm giving Apple credit where credit is certainly due. I absolutely love my Zune, but I think I'll start calling it, "Woody" and my iPod touch, "Buzz Lightyear". lol. (Toy Story reference, if you have no idea what I'm referencing)

I purchased this after my company started running it's software on it. I use it for my job. :)
I replaced a WinMobile device that I fried by putting in the wrong charging unit. I had that unit for almost 1 1/2 years. No chance of that with the iPod.
I got the iPod, started playing with it and found -
1. I can do more on this than the WinMobile device
2. Email from our exchange server is easier and more reliable than the WinMobile (ironic, huh?)
3. Apple has made it very easy to get apps on it
4. Smaller and easier to carry
5. Overall a much more useful device
I have not had a single bad experience with this unit since I purchased in early Feb. If this one goes, I will get another in a heartbeat. Solid product, solid apps, well worth the price, IMHO.
I stream video out to my workshed behind my house. I control my 2 DSM-520 unit in the house. I check email on the road with the WiFi. I keep with the markets throughout the day. I watch movies on plane trips. I read books on it. I play games on it. I use it for work. What more can you ask for?

My iPod Touch does everything. This is a device for someone who doesn't want or need the phone, plus it offers more storage than the larger iPhone.
Any app you can imagine, you can find it. This device is so versatile, that I don't know how I lived without it. Definitely try it out as an ebook reader. I haven't carried a physical book in weeks!
No major problems to report, other than it locked up once and I couldn't figure out how to get it to reboot, unlike my old iPod.
Wifi? If you can get it, it's great. I check e-mail from my bed. I sometimes go to a sandwich shop with wifi to play around. Unfortunately, a lot of hotspots are not free. Although I already have a 3G Nano I wanted something with more video capability to watch video while traveling. I am extremely impressed with the crystal clear quality of the video. The pictures are razor sharp. I am also very pleased with the utility of the wireless connection. It is really easy to check emails, weather, news, etc. It is not very easy to type on. I can type much faster on the blackberry. I didn't think I would use the "app" feature of the Ipod much but have come to really rely on some really neat apps. I have a great dictionary and have downloaded the app for NY Times and USA Today. I load the papers up every morning and read them during breaks at work. I've become so impressed with this little gadget I've decided to get the Iphone as soon as they come out with the next gen (around June?!?!). This generation is much better than any other previous generation. I like the speaker built in feature and the clarity of sounds with iTunes Plus songs with higher bit rate. Those two are what keeps me using the iPod over and over. Even at low volume I can hear really clearly with the ear phones that came with the product. I didn't buy the games. I bought 6 products that helps track the calories of fast food restaurant menu and other grocery items. I use the facebook access and mail access as high point of my routine use of iPod. I am impressed with the tactile experience of the iPod touch. It has performed greatly. Over the years, I have owned many mp3 players and this one is the most fun. The Ipod 2 is great, now I wonder why I bought my netbook PC. The Ipod 2 can almost do everything in a much smaller portable form factor. Price seemed kinda high, but you get what you pay for. I think I made a smart investment. The wifi connection is super, I use it all the time and once one downloads the mobile version of one's popular websites, you're in nirvana. I find the iPod Touch to be a versatile and fun toy/tool. Apple has been very smart forcing you to use their iTunes interface while linking it to a host of options through their Store. At first I was annoyed, but I got over it as I began downloading inexpensive music, games and applications. There is also a wide variety of useful inexpensive accessories available by third party vendors. Accessing the internet from the iPod Touch, via Wi-Fi Hot-spots' or a wireless router, is easy, but some of the news pages do not scale up making it impossible to read text on the small screen. I have not found that to be a problem with email however. To eliminate clutter on the home screen, I would like to have control on what is presented. Some of the default applications I don't use and would like to be able to deactivate them. I love it. Ipod and internet on the same device. The only thing I might would reconsider is the iPhone. Having to hop networks to get wi-fi is the only negative when out and about with the Touch.
At home it's flawless, and the apps are incredibly fun and entertaining.

I'd give the device four stars were it not for one stupid design/legal/copyrightnazi decision. You CANNOT use this device at all until you've connected it to a PC or MAC and fire up I-tunes to activate it.
That's right. This is a wireless device, but you can't use it until you connect it - by an old fashioned wire - to another device. Lame. Lame. Lame. What year is this Apple.
It's not just a minor gripe either. I use Linux, which means I DO NOT use I-Tunes, nor will I. So I had to wander over to a net-cafe with I-tunes on their boxes to activate this.
I also blame Amazon for not warning people that they will need either a Mac or a PC to activate this. Mac and PC requirements are given, but there's nothing to indicate that those mean anything more than that you need particular configurations to sync to i-tunes. You'd assume that with a wireless device you would be able to fire it up, configure it, connect. Nope. Amazon should clearly indicate this. So should Apple.
One final annoyance. The Apple copynazis decided to encrypt their database in the 2.x firmware in a way that effectively prevents you from downloading playable files to it via any software other than I-tunes.

I did not grow up with any knowledge about electronic items. I had to learn it or ask my son all about computers. I saw a video demonstration of the ipod touch and I knew it would not be hard to use at all. I just love this item. I got a used one because of the lower price and it had a few scratches on it. The scratches do not effect the quality of the ipod touch. This is so much fun and convienient to carry around to show all your pictures to friends and family. I love the fact that I can download any game or music right on the ipod touch. I can also get my emails. I have never had any problem buying through Amazon.com using a second company. well I bought this about a week ago, so far I love it! I've been deciding whether to get the 8gb or 16gb and so i just decided to get 16gb....if you are in this dilemma..I'd say if you don't have too much music and videos, get 8...because I barely used less than 4 gb and I have like 4 hours of video, about 600 songs, ton of apps, and a few pics. There's still lots of room left over which I like :] It will fill up in a few months..
The touch screen is really good compared to other touch screen products that I have used...its very precise and sensitive. Screen is beautiful, speakers are a bit weak but its ok....I'll list some pros and cons:
PROS:
-nice design
-good touch screen
-easy to use
-light
-FUN apps...could spend hours on it
CONS:
-easy to scratch
-speakers weak
-gets annoying to always have to look at it to press next song or pause..it should have buttons. I don't think it would really hurt the design..put it on the side or something like the volume.
-battery doesn't last too long...only if you listen to music then it lasts a good amount
-pricey $$$
-should have a camera...I REALLY wish it had one

I had been putting this off: buying an iPod Touch. Too small, too hard to type. But I'm traveling this summer, and I wanted a small computer, so I could read my news blogs, receive and send email. I also wanted to be able to carry a decent Italian dictionary in my pocket. I downloaded one from iTunes' Apps. A son challenged me to international chess. I hadn't played in 30 years, so I download a practice chess App. I have a German dictionary, a Spanish dictionary, an English dictionary, reference books, and something like 83 novels, who knows how much music, all in that little thing! I downloaded EasyWriter Pro and am practicing typing with two thumbs, perfect for a fiction writer: the two thumbs! I send the writings to my email, move them from there to my stories and novels. In short, I carry around a whole office in my pocket. Is it small? Yes. Is it too small? Not quite. picked up my new ipod touch after having a 30g ipod video
for four years. i got the 16gb because i never came close
to filling up the 30g. the touch is perfect though. the wifi
works great, the apps are really fun, and i like the speakers

I got my iPod Touch the day before they Skype app came out, and I want to be clear that I would not get one before I knew there was a Skype app, and I bought it to use as my Skype phone way from home.
If you are looking for a great PDA, portable game station, or Skype phone - look no further. They Skype app works great, but it is still new, 1.0.1, so all the features of Skype are not there. I can make calls, but I can't receive them. Skype logs you out when you go to do anything else. So at this point, don't let that be the only reason, like I did.
The touch makes a great PDA. I am able to make appointments, check my gmail account and take notes. The keypad is really good. It does not sync up with Thunderbird. That is a pain, as it has my Google calender, so I have to pick one or update both.
If you are buying this to use a an MP3 player, I give it 2 stars, and the MP3 player is why I only gave this product 4 starts. If the MP3 player were as good as my Creative Zen, I would have given the iPod touch 5 stars - no question.
My Zen can play more video types, or at least it re-codes them to be Zen capable. None of my videos play on my Touch, or at least I do not know how to re-code them to work on it. Zen's program just does it for me. iTunes tells my they won't play on my Touch.
The Zen has the ability to add an SD card, so I can take my kids movies or music with me for them (they are all 4 and under) without messing up my stuff (selfish, I know). With the iPod Touch, I take up my hard drive space and the time to make a play list etc...
With the Zen I can delete songs/videos/pics I do not want from the card or the hard drive without connecting to the computer. If I want to upload songs/videos/pics from the card I can do so. If I am at a friends and forget my USB cable I can use a SD card to add stuff to my Zen.
To do anything, other than play music or videos, in the Touch I have to plug in to iTunes. That is annoying. I do not buy songs from the iStore, as i can get the same music for a fraction of the price ($2.99 for an album compared to $0.99 per song) elsewhere, or even better, Creative Commons music from Jamendo.com for free (legally).
I also find the Zen more intuitive. I picked it up, and knew how it worked because it worked the way I have always thought an MP3 player should. That is a me thing though.
The iPod Touch does not play oggs, I do not like that, but I already re-coded my library for my Zen so that is not a big deal at this point.
I think the bottom line for me is that I can do more of what I want to do on the Zen with my music than I can with the iPod. The Zen also came with better headphones, tho both are lower quality.
I also want to point out again that I love my iPod Touch, I just do not see it as an MP3 player with extra stuff, I see it as a PDA/etc... with a generic MP3 player. If not for the Skype app, I never would have bought one. Maybe they should call it SkyPod now ;)Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.
