My wife and I bought this iPod for my mother on her 79th birthday. She wanted an iPhone, but we thought (after some research) that the device was more than she would actually use, especially considering the expensive calling plan.
After some discussion and still more research, I realized that my mother might get what she wanted (Internet access from her bed, a poker game, and streaming Pandora) from the iPod Touch. Well, we were right. My mother has said several times not that it is the best present she has ever gotten, and that she uses it everyday.
One caveat, my mother did have to buy a wireless router for her Internet services, but don't let that scare you away, they're not very expensive and easy to setup (if you follow the brief directions).
