I purchased this for my son who had been in a third world country for 2 years. I was hoping it would make his transition easier into normal life. He was able to download lots of different free apps for it and it has become his window to the world. I love that you can e-mail from it, google things, get the weather and it even has google earth so he can pinpoint addresses he has been or is going to. It is able to remind him of appointments also. Before he got home I figured out how to convert home videos to ipod format and put them on his ipod touch too. I digitally scrapbook and put all of his scrapbook pages on the ipod. That is very cool. It allowed him to carry one small item in his pocket versus 3 large scrapbooks.
