The iPod Touch is just about the coolest toy I've ever gotten to lay my hands on, ever.

To give some background, you know you have a great device when, after breaking it, you buy another one! I don't know if I dropped and destroyed my Nintendo DS or Sony PSP I'd get a replacement. I sure would miss the device, but it would be hard for me to justify spending hundreds of dollars to re-buy something I just had. The iPod Touch, however, was SO cool and convenient, I did just that. After accidentally damaging my first one, I got the second generation one, and was even happier! (And yes, I'm much more careful with this one ;-))

I got my first iPod Touch immediately when Apple released them. I heard great things about it, and gave it a shot. It was the best investment I made, since it not only played music, but it played games and best of all, allowed me to surf the web wirelessly on the go...a huge plus, especially on a college campus where Wi-Fi is readily available (outside of college, it's sometimes hard to come across unprotected Wi-Fi networks). At home, I surf my protected wireless network so that I can know if I got an email when I'm in the kitchen, check the news from bed, or do anything else that I don't feel like getting up and going to the computer for.

Perhaps my favorite thing about this was the "wow" factor ... even now, when many people have iPod Touches or iPhones, you can still impress people with its touch screen and cool apps. There are several features that I feel are worth elaborating on:

TOUCH SCREEN
I have the LG Dare, which was supposed to be an iPhone-killer. It also features a touch screen, and it wasn't until the Dare that I truly appreciated the Touch's touch screen! The input on the Touch is VERY accurate when compared to other touchscreen devices. Better yet, it has an auto-complete/suggest dictionary, so you don't have too many misspellings. My Dare has disappointed me when it's come to touchscreen input

SURFING THE WEB
This is by far my favorite thing to do with the Touch. For those of you who don't want to dish out tons of money to have a data plan on your cell phone, and are lucky enough to be near many unprotected wireless networks (i.e. college kids, people in major metropolitan areas), this provides you internet on the go. Even if you don't have access to unprotected networks outside and solely use this as a sort of mini computer in the house with your own wireless network, it is VERY convenient. You can double-tap to make text larger, zoom in easily, and have a great time while surfing.

APPS
Some people hack, or 'jailbreak' their iPod Touches in order to get free apps, but I'd recommend going legitimately through the App Store...not only are there many freebies, but the pay-apps are reasonably priced.

VS PREVIOUS MODEL
The price has dropped, storage capacity increased for some models to 16GB and 32GB, and there are some improvements, but this is not radically different from the previous generation iPod Touch. One of the things I don't like is that Apple charges iPod Touch users an upgrade fee when there's a radically newer version of software (while iPhone users get it for free). So, if you have the older version of the iPod Touch, you can simply upgrade the software to get a lot of the newer functionality, since the upgrades to hardware aren't big enough to justify the price of buying a new one. If you DON'T have an iPod Touch yet, however, the prices are incredibly reasonable considering just how awesome a toy you're getting!

VIDEO
The only annoying thing about the iPod Touch (and many other portable media players, for that matter), is that you often have to convert your videos to a different format in order to play them on the Touch. If Apple did for video what they did for music, that would be great! Inconvenience aside, however, the video playback is really cool, and especially convenient if you're going on a long trip and want something to keep you busy.

BATTERY LIFE
Truly amazing battery life, but I must warn you that it decreased noticeably over time for me. That being said, I carry around a reserve battery pack (that uses AA batteries) so that I'm never Touchless :-)Get more detail about Apple iPod touch 16 GB (2nd Generation) NEWEST MODEL.
